Working at Uber as a Payroll Specialist means ensuring millions of move-related transactions translate into accurate, compliant, and timely pay for our global workforce. You will join the International Payroll Accounting and Compliance team, a high-performance group within Finance Operations that functions as the critical bridge between upstream payroll processing, tax partners, and corporate accounting.
This role requires navigating the complexity of shifting local regulations across LatAm, EMEA, and APAC while maintaining the relentless pace of a global tech leader. You’ll need a mindset that thrives on ownership and "deep-diving" into the details of balance sheet reconciliations and audit responses. If you are energized by solving messy data puzzles and want to build a career in a scale-driven environment where accuracy is the non-negotiable standard, this is where you’ll grow.
What you’ll do
- Take full ownership of the daily end-to-end payroll process for a diverse portfolio of international regions, ensuring every starter, leaver, and benefit change is captured with precision.
- Navigate the month-end close process by preparing and reviewing journal entries, analyzing flux, and reconciling P&L and Balance Sheet accounts under tight deadlines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with People Ops, Tax, and Legal to ensure statutory compliance and resolve complex payroll roadblocks across different jurisdictions.
- Manage world-class customer support within our internal ticketing system, translating complex payroll and tax issues into clear, human answers for Uber employees.
- Drive audit readiness by maintaining meticulous documentation and acting as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors during local and global reviews.
- Unblock execution hurdles by identifying patterns in data gaps and partnering with Global Business Service providers to optimize and scale our financial processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 1+ years of professional experience in international or US/Canada payroll operations and accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel, specifically with advanced functions like V-Lookups and Pivot Tables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing Latin America (LatAm) payroll specifically, including familiarity with Brazil-specific taxes like eSocial and FGTS.
- Experience with global payroll systems and ticketing portals (e.g., Workday, ADP, or ServiceNow).
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-ambiguity situations and conflicting priorities during peak payroll cycles.
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with a track record of improving operational excellence or reducing tech debt in payroll workflows.
- Advanced English proficiency for seamless collaboration with global process owners and cross-regional stakeholders.
