The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the DAF technical advisor (TA) for Occupational Safety, providing peer-level, highly specialized consultation to the Chief of Occupational Safety, separating complex technical adjudication from executive program management.
As the DAF's senior technical expert on Occupational Safety, the incumbent provides expert analysis, consultation, and authoritative recommendations to resolve critical/unsolvable and controversial safety issues that have DAF-wide or government-wide impact that redefine agency policy. The incumbent is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing new and innovative occupational safety programs and policies to address emerging, obscure mission-critical hazards. The incumbent personally undertakes special projects and assignments of the highest importance that involve analyzing exceptionally complex and unprecedented safety challenges of national significance. Serves as the senior technical consultant on complex issues, providing authoritative advice and subject matter expertise to senior Branch Chiefs (e.g., Safety Engineering, Traffic Safety, and Safety Operations) and project officers.
