SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – REINSURANCE – ILS – BERMUDA – 10% TAX – HR338

About this opportunity

Our client manages capital on behalf of investors seeking the risk/reward and diversification benefits available from investing in the property catastrophe reinsurance and retrocession market. The company serves as the insurance manager to its subsidiary, a registered segregated accounts company and a licensed provider of collateralized property catastrophe protection to insurers and reinsurers. As used herein, the “Company” refers to both entities and their affiliates.

The successful applicant, working under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Primary owner of the financial operations and reporting of a large segregated account of the company
  • Support the underwriting team with reviewing and accounting for policy and claims information
  • Managing and enhancing finance processes, controls, and automation
  • Account reconciliations, maintaining sub-ledgers and closing of trial balances
  • Participate in the monthly NAV process, quarterly and annual investor reports and financial statements
  • Participate in the preparation and update of budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Prepare finance, operating and such other reports as may be required from time to time
  • Managing the life cycle of trust facilities, including opening, monitoring accounts, reconciling balances and closing
  • Working with the CFO to provide such information as may be required by the Operating Committee or the Board of Directors
  • Working with the Company’s independent auditors in connection with annual audited financial statements
  • Assist with analytics, finance and operations related projects as needed

What you’ll need

  • An internationally recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CFA, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or similar field
  • A minimum of seven years of accounting experience with at least five years in a reinsurance accounting role
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel, and Power Query, including experience designing and maintaining automated reporting and data solutions; SQL experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with collateralized reinsurance and ILS structures is an asset
  • Experienced in Bermuda statutory regulations and U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 944, 820, and 825
  • A self-starter with excellent interpersonal and computer skills and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a small team
  • Must demonstrate strong experience using one or more accounting software packages; Microsoft Dynamics (GP) is strongly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communications; and time management skills
