What this job involves:
Amazon Travel and Events is seeking a Technical Project Manager to drive integrated delivery across multiple workstreams for a strategic initiative migrating Amazon's event planning ecosystem from fragmented legacy systems to a conversational AI platform. The project spans Engineering, Operational Readiness, and Change Management workstreams with a phased global rollout. This role does not manage people or lead other Project Managers. Instead, it serves as the connective tissue between workstream leads, ensuring dependencies are tracked, gaps are surfaced early, and delivery stays on track across the full project lifecycle. The ideal candidate builds deep understanding of each workstream, maintains a single integrated view of progress, and actively drives resolution rather than passively reporting status.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Project & Workstream Comprehension
Develop a deep understanding of the project, including its purpose, phased rollout strategy, financial drivers, and the legacy systems it replaces. Understand each workstream at a detailed level including Engineering (platform build, sprint planning, feature delivery timelines, technical dependencies), Operational Readiness (data collection, process documentation, SOP development, pilot site preparation, training coordination), and Change Management (stakeholder engagement, communications strategy, service partner coordination, advisory group management).
Understand how workstreams interconnect, such as how training depends on SOPs, SOPs depend on feature completion, and feature completion depends on operational data collection. Quickly absorb complex project context and speak credibly about each workstream's deliverables, risks, and dependencies without needing to own the content.
- Analytical & Gap Management
Identify what is missing, blocked, or at risk across all workstreams. Apply a requirements traceability mindset, understanding how deliverables connect across Engineering, Operational Readiness, and Change Management. Map dependencies and flag upstream and downstream impacts before they become blockers. Document how workstreams interconnect and where handoffs break down through process mapping.
- Cross-Functional Coordination & Delivery
Integrate multiple workstreams into a single coherent view and maintain integrated timelines. Facilitate alignment between technical and non-technical stakeholders. Run weekly gap reviews and drive resolution rather than simply reporting on status. Manage go/no-go decision frameworks, phased rollout coordination, and production cutover planning.
- Stakeholder Communication
Translate between engineering language and operational and business language. Create consolidated status reporting and decision packages for senior leadership. Prepare clear context and recommended actions rather than data dumps. Present risk and mitigation options with confidence.
- Proactive Delivery Mindset
Go beyond documenting and analyzing by actively chasing, escalating, and holding workstream leads accountable. Develop and own mitigation plans, not just risk registers. Ask "what haven't we thought of?" rather than waiting for blockers to surface. Establish cadences while remaining adaptable to shifting priorities and ambiguity.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in project management, program delivery, or project coordination.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating phased technical product launches with multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Proven ability to rapidly learn complex project domains and understand technical, operational, and change workstreams at a working level.
- Experience working in environments where workstream leads manage delivery activities alongside their regular responsibilities.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and project management tooling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create consolidated decision packages for senior leadership.
- Strong analytical and gap identification skills with a requirements traceability mindset.
- Ability to facilitate cross-functional alignment and drive resolution of blockers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2, or Agile Scrum certification.
- Experience with dependency mapping tools and integrated project scheduling.
- Previous experience supporting multi-workstream technology migrations or platform launches.
- Familiarity with change management frameworks and operational readiness planning.
- Experience with Asana, Smartsheet, or similar project management tools.
- Experience translating between technical and business stakeholders.
- Proven track record of proactive delivery and accountability management.
Location: Onsite
Additional Requirements: Occasional travel may be required for pilot site coordination. Must comply with Amazon's return to office policy of being in the office 5 days a week.
