As an Advanced Project Engineer (Systems Integration & Applications), you will lead the design, development, and delivery of integrated building automation solutions across BMS, SCADA, and third-party systems. The role focuses on connecting disparate operational technologies, enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and field devices to enable seamless data exchange, visualization, reporting, and automation.

Working closely with customers, project teams, and technology partners, you will design and implement integration architectures using industry-standard protocols, APIs, databases, and software technologies. You will be responsible for delivering robust, scalable, and secure integration solutions that bridge Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) environments.

 

This role combines traditional BMS engineering with modern systems integration, requiring the ability to connect and integrate building systems, control systems, and third-party platforms using industry-standard protocols, APIs, databases, and scripting tools. You will work with customers, contractors, consultants, and internal engineering teams to deliver scalable and innovative solutions across complex environments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Lead the design and implementation of systems integration solutions across BMS, SCADA, and third-party platforms.
  • Develop integration architectures that enable data exchange between building systems, industrial control systems, enterprise applications, cloud services, and operational platforms.
  • Design and implement interfaces using protocols and technologies such as Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, SOAP, SNMP, and SQL databases.
  • Develop scripts, connectors, middleware solutions, and data transformation logic to support system interoperability.
  • Integrate HVAC, power monitoring, metering, security, access control, lighting, IoT, and other facility systems into centralized monitoring and management platforms.
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define functional requirements, interface specifications, and data mapping strategies.
  • Support software configuration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities across integrated environments.
  • Develop functional design specifications, interface control documents, test procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with BMS, SCADA, IT, cybersecurity, and engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and project teams.
  • Support software development, testing, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and system start-up.

  • Support solution development, technical proposals, and project estimation activities.
  • Ensure solutions comply with quality, cybersecurity, safety, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety (WHS/OH&S), cybersecurity, engineering standards, and client requirements.
  • Support sales and business development activities through technical consultation, solution design, and project estimation.
  • Assess customer sites and develop engineering, networking, and integration requirements.
 

 

Key Experience & Capabilities:

 

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, Automation, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional engineering body.
  • 8-10 years’ experience delivering automation, control system, BMS, SCADA, or systems integration projects.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)/and or SCADA platforms is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus, BACnet, OPC, MQTT, and related technologies.
  • Experience integrating BMS, SCADA, PLC, IoT, energy management, power monitoring, or other third-party systems.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, web services, middleware platforms, and database technologies.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience with SQL databases, data historians, reporting platforms, and data analytics solutions.
  • Proven experience in a Project Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Systems Integration Engineer role on complex automation projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating technical stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, consultants, IT teams, and operations personnel.
  • Experience working within construction, infrastructure, commercial buildings, data centre, healthcare, industrial, or critical environment projects.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, cybersecurity, and customer satisfaction.
