The Role
As a Senior OMEGAMON Specialist – z/OS System Programming & Tivoli Event Management at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.
There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

We are looking for a Senior OMEGAMON Specialist – z/OS System Programming & Tivoli Event Management with strong experience in IBM Mainframe infrastructure support. The candidate should have hands-on expertise in OMEGAMON installation, customization, monitoring configuration, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and Tivoli Event Management integration.
The role requires strong z/OS skills including SMP/E, JCL, JES2, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, RMF/SMF, WLM, RACF, TCP/IP, PARMLIB/PROCLIB customization, and started task management. The candidate will support monitoring thresholds, alerts, situations, event forwarding, escalation workflows, incident resolution, production stability, and proactive performance monitoring across critical z/OS environments.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, customize, upgrade, and maintain IBM OMEGAMON monitoring products across z/OS environments.
Perform OMEGAMON product setup including runtime environment configuration, started task setup, product libraries, PARMLIB/PROCLIB changes, security definitions, and maintenance activities.
Customize OMEGAMON monitoring parameters, thresholds, alerts, exceptions, workspaces, profiles, and runtime configurations.
Configure and support monitoring for critical mainframe components including:
z/OS
CICS
IMS
Db2
MQ
Storage
TCP/IP / Network
Monitor system health, workload performance, CPU utilization, memory, paging, DASD response, JES2, WLM, address spaces, enqueue contention, and subsystem bottlenecks.
Support Tivoli Event Management integration for forwarding, filtering, correlating, escalating, and managing OMEGAMON-generated events.
Configure event situations, thresholds, automation rules, severity mapping, and escalation logic through Tivoli monitoring/event management tools.
Troubleshoot OMEGAMON agent failures, monitoring data gaps, alert issues, event forwarding failures, runtime errors, and connectivity issues.
Analyze OMEGAMON alerts, RMF/SMF data, SDSF output, system logs, traces, and performance reports to identify and resolve issues.
Work with operations, command center, automation, and enterprise monitoring teams to ensure alerts are routed to appropriate support groups.
Support integration with enterprise monitoring and ticketing platforms such as Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server, Tivoli Enterprise Portal, Netcool/OMNIbus, ServiceNow, Splunk, or similar tools.
Manage ticket queues, prioritize assignments, and work directly with technicians and support teams to resolve client issues within agreed SLAs.
Provide day-to-day systems administration, monitoring support, and security compliance for client environments.
Recommend monitoring improvements, modernization options, automation opportunities, and operational efficiency enhancements.
Participate in incident, problem, change, release, maintenance, audit, compliance, and disaster recovery activities.
Create and maintain technical documentation, installation guides, customization procedures, monitoring standards, event management workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
Share technical expertise with junior resources, operations teams, and stakeholders to improve monitoring maturity and operational excellence.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
8–12+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe infrastructure
Strong hands-on experience with IBM OMEGAMON monitoring suite
Expertise in:
OMEGAMON for z/OS
OMEGAMON agents and runtime environments
Enhanced 3270 User Interface
Workspaces, situations, alerts, and thresholds
Exception monitoring and historical data collection
Performance monitoring and reporting
Proven experience in:
Installation, upgrade, customization, and maintenance of OMEGAMON
Troubleshooting OMEGAMON startup issues, agent communication failures, and data collection issues
Designing meaningful monitoring thresholds and minimizing false alerts
Strong experience with Tivoli Event Management / Enterprise Monitoring
Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS)
Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP)
Event forwarding, filtering, and correlation
Event severity mapping and alert escalation
Event automation rules and integration with ticketing systems
Strong understanding of:
Alert suppression, event routing, and event noise reduction
Integration between OMEGAMON and enterprise monitoring tools
Strong expertise in z/OS System Programming / Administration
SMP/E, JCL, JES2, TSO/ISPF, SDSF
USS/OMVS, RACF, TCP/IP, WLM
RMF/SMF performance monitoring
PARMLIB/PROCLIB customization
Started tasks and system configuration
Experience with IBM software installation and maintenance on z/OS
Strong understanding of system performance, workload management, and production stability
Experience working in 24/7 production support environments
Solid understanding of incident, problem, change, and release management processes
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
Experience with Netcool/OMNIbus or similar enterprise event management tools
Exposure to enterprise ticketing tools integration (ServiceNow or equivalent)
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments in industries like banking, insurance, or retail
Advanced troubleshooting experience involving:
Event flow issues between OMEGAMON, Tivoli, and downstream systems
Monitoring gaps and incorrect alert behavior
Experience in automation of monitoring and event management workflows
Exposure to system performance tuning and capacity planning
Ability to implement best practices for monitoring standardization across environments
