About the Group
General Motors Research Labs is an applied research center focusing on creating and evaluating innovations for future vehicles. Our researchers conduct independent technical work, while initiating and leading collaborative projects with colleagues at academia and industry globally.
The Wireless Connectivity R&D group focuses on advancing both current and future connectivity technologies across cellular (4G/5G/6G), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, and beyond.

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Researcher - Wireless Connectivity & AI to drive innovation at the intersection of wireless communications, AI/ML, and automotive applications.
This role combines deep technical expertise in wireless systems with advanced data-driven methods to unlock new capabilities and improve real-world performance beyond current limits.
What will YOU do?
Analyze connectivity system performance using data collected from field deployments, lab measurements, and simulations
Benchmark performance against commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) devices and identify key performance gaps
Develop models and methodologies—leveraging AI/ML and analytical techniques—to improve connectivity robustness and user experience
Design and evaluate system-level optimizations for in-vehicle connectivity across multiple radio technologies
Influence next-generation connectivity architectures and standards with a focus on enhancing customer-facing applications
Collect, preprocess, and analyze large-scale connectivity datasets from simulations, lab measurements, and field deployments
Develop predictive models for:
Physical layer (link-level) performance
End-to-end system and network performance
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
Strong background in wireless communications, including:
Physical layer and higher-layer protocols
Cellular (4G/5G) and WLAN systems
Real-world deployment considerations and KPI trade-offs
Solid foundation in:
Signal processing
Probability and statistics
Optimization
Estimation and detection theory
Information theory
Proven experience in AI/ML, including model development and evaluation
Proficiency in programming: Python, MATLAB, C/C++
Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in applied research and transitioning ideas into practical solutions
Background in system-level simulations or real-world measurement campaigns
Familiarity with automotive connectivity use cases and constraints
Contributions to research or standardization (publications, patents, 3GPP/IEEE involvement)
