A Day in the Life
The SAP IT Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s SAP ABAP Technical team, including strategy, implementation, support, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role oversees internal teams and external vendors, helps drive SAP S/4HANA migration efforts, and ensures alignment between business needs and technology solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership, stakeholder management, and vendor governance experience.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
SAP Strategy & Leadership:
Define and execute the SAP roadmap/AI Strategy/Cloud Technology aligned with business objectives
Lead SAP transformation initiatives, including S/4HANA migration and modernization programs
Act as the liaison between IT and business stakeholders for SAP-related matters
Program Delivery:
Plan, manage, and deliver SAP Projects
Oversee project timelines, budgets, risks, and dependencies
Manage multiple projects concurrently
Ensure adoption of best practices, data integrity, and minimal business disruption
Handle escalations with stakeholders
Drive continuous improvement and system optimization initiatives
Provide reporting and KPIs on delivery and quality
Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SAP developers and architects
Set performance goals, conduct evaluations, and support career development
Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment
Vendor Management:
Manage relationships with system integrators, consultants, and support vendors
Define SLAs, monitor performance, and ensure quality delivery
Negotiate contracts and manage vendor budgets and deliverables
Governance & Compliance:
Establish SAP governance frameworks, standards, and best practices
Ensure compliance with internal policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards
Manage access controls and risk mitigation
Stakeholder Engagement:
Partner with finance, supply chain, HR, and other business units to optimize SAP usage
Translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions
Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
8–12+ years of SAP experience, including functional and/or technical roles.
Proven experience leading SAP S/4HANA migration projects.
3–5+ years of people management experience.
Strong experience managing third-party vendors and system integrators.
Deep knowledge of SAP modules (e.g., FI/CO, MM, SD, or others relevant to the business).
Experience with SAP architecture, integration, and data migration strategies.
Proficient in SAP change request management processes, including documenting change requests, assessing risk, and obtaining approvals.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues related to SAP change and release management processes.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple concurrent release cycles for different SAP systems.
Experience working across US and multiple time zones.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Nice to Have,
Previous medical device and/or work experience in an FDA regulated industry.
SAP certifications (e.g., S/4HANA, or specific modules).
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g.SAP BTP).
Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, or hybrid delivery models.
