We offer various shifts: 

  • Rotating Day Shift (continental) 

  • Monday to Thursday Nightshift 

Position Summary 

The Welder Helper provides entrylevel support to the welding department under the direction of certified Journeyperson. This role focuses on performing housekeeping, material handling and basic preparatory tasks to support safe operations, improve workflow efficiency and maximize the productivity of welding personnel.  

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Assist Journeyperson Welders, Apprentice Welders, Lead Hands and Supervisors with daily welding and fabrication activities in a safe and efficient manner. 

  • Perform shop housekeeping and material preparation tasks to support workflow efficiency and maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment. 

  • Safely operate basic cutting equipment, including cutting saws and approved small handheld tools, following training and established procedures. 

  • Inspect, clean and perform basic maintenance on small tools and equipment, report malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to the Lead Hand or Supervisor. 

  • Assist with inventory control activities, including identifying, handling and staging materials in accordance with company procedures. 

  • Load and unload raw materials, components and finished products for production or shipment using approved manual handling techniques. 

  • Assist with inspecting large equipment and work areas to ensure proper operating condition; report defects or issues to supervision. 

  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, practices or procedures and follow all safety instructions and corrective actions. 

  • Participate and adhere to shop hygiene, housekeeping and 5S Program.  

  • May assist with material handling using forklifts or overhead cranes, subject to appropriate training and authorization. 

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code. 

  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Basic awareness of welding and fabrication shop environments and manufacturing workflows.  

  • Fundamental understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including hazard recognition, PPE use and safe work practices.  

  • General knowledge of common hand tools, power tools and basic shop equipment used in welding and fabrication environments.  

  • Ability to identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions or quality concerns. 

  • Knowledge of proper housekeeping and material handling practices. 

  • Ability to work effectively under direct supervision and apply feedback to improve skills and performance. 

  • Introductory awareness of materials handling processes and inventory control principles.  

  • Understanding of the importance of housekeeping, organization and 5S practices in a manufacturing setting. 

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fastpaced, highpressure production environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships. 

  • Ability to interact with others in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic and professional manner at all times. 

  • Highly adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills that support effective collaboration in a diverse work environment. 

  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks, resolve issues and consistently meet deadlines.

Education and Work Experience 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 

  • Completion of, or enrollment in, a welding preapprenticeship, trade readiness or related technical training program is considered an asset. 

  • Willingness and eligibility to register as an Apprentice Welder with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) when qualified. 

  • Introductory knowledge of welding tools, materials and equipment used in manufacturing environments is an asset. 

  • Experience adhering to safe work practices, procedures and manufacturing processes from raw material intake through to finished product. 

  • Previous work experience in an industrial, commercial or manufacturing environment is preferred. 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures and other productionrelated hazards. 

  • Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and excessive noise levels in the workplace. 

  • Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs. 

  • Must have the ability to stand for extended periods throughout each shift. 

  • Manual dexterity is required to effectively operate tools and equipment. 

  • Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
