Job Description

As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for the Backend/API in a multidisciplinary app development team, where you will work alongside native engineers, analytics, designers and our multi-functional partners to bring exciting features to get more users into our app. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to Etsy’s goals and growth alongside mobile engineers and business partners.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of App T team. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

  • You will be part of an engineering team within App T , responsible for driving users to land in our app. Since mobile is the fastest growing segment, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to Etsy’s goals and growth alongside mobile engineers and partners.

  • In support of the Drive and Land Traffic initiative’s goals, App T’s mission is to grow app traffic by ensuring connected app landings, accurate tracking of offsite/in app journeys, and best-in-class integration of app measurement SDKs. 


Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement robust backend systems and APIs for Etsy's mobile app

  • Collaborate with native engineers to integrate new features

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (product, design, etc.)

  • Write clean, well-documented code and participate in code reviews

  • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and technical issues

  • Prototype, optimize, and deploy large-scale product improvements

  • Run experiments and use data to validate product improvements

  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive:

  • 3 years of professional backend or full-stack development experience in a product-minded environment.

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language (PHP, Java, Python, Node.js, Ruby).

  • Experience with API design and development (RESTful APIs preferred).

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Passion for understanding the users’ problems and find effective solutions for them.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with your team, and partners.

  • Proficiency with version control tools (our tooling and processes are based on git and GitHub).

  • Knowledge of modern practices and tools.

  • Curiosity about observing the health and performance of the applications your team owns.

  • Have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality as you work around our code
