Accountabilities:
- Review anesthesia records and related clinical documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with required elements, including signatures, dates, and attestations.
- Abstract and assign appropriate CPT codes and accurately crosswalk surgical procedures to corresponding ASA codes.
- Apply ICD-10 coding guidelines and assign diagnosis codes based on clinical documentation.
- Review and assign appropriate coding modifiers in accordance with payer and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze anesthesia records to determine start and end times, care team involvement, and medical direction requirements.
- Identify and assign provider roles, including physicians, CRNAs, CAAs, residents, and other care team participants.
- Ensure compliance with CMS regulations, NCCI edits, LCD/NCD policies, and organizational coding standards.
- Meet established productivity targets, coding accuracy standards, and quarterly audit performance requirements.
- Adhere to departmental workflows, coding playbooks, HIPAA regulations, and confidentiality policies.
- Support additional coding and documentation-related activities as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required; Certified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC) certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in surgical coding, with anesthesia coding experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of complex surgical CPT coding and ICD-10 coding guidelines.
- Experience coding for physicians, CRNAs, CAAs, nurse practitioners, residents, and related provider types.
- Familiarity with NCCI bundling, CMS regulations, LCD/NCD policies, and anesthesia coding guidelines.
- Experience working with multiple EMR systems, electronic documentation platforms, and charge capture solutions.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe PDF tools.
- Strong computer literacy and data entry skills, including ten-key proficiency.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high productivity standards in a remote setting.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants residing in California, Hawaii, or Alaska are not eligible for this position.
- Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $18.17 to $29.04 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and skills.
