The Vice President, Application Reliability & Operations Engineering provides executive leadership to Humana.
The Vice President, Application Reliability & Operations Engineering is a senior strategic and operational leader responsible for ensuring that the corporation’s technology systems operate reliably, securely, and as intended. This role is critical to establishing a new level of technical capability in areas where service performance has historically presented challenges. This includes artificial intelligence.
The VP is accountable for ensuring that health checks are performed daily on all systems of strategic importance and for overseeing the enterprise change control process, which encompasses thousands of changes each week. Sound judgment and decision-making are essential, as this role advises the CIO, COO and senior vice presidents on strategies to optimize technology platforms and services.
In addition, the VP drives automation across the technology organization, delivering significant labor efficiencies through the automation of servers and other core technologies. This leader is responsible for reporting on and continuously improving service levels across the enterprise.
Highly technical engineers operating under the Service Reliability Engineering (SRE) model report to this role. As such, the VP must balance deep technical expertise with strong business acumen. The role also carries accountability for managing and leading responses to major incidents that may impact the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Build and lead a team that designs and implements automated mechanisms to perform daily operational health checks across enterprise systems.
Support the Stars initiative by ensuring consistently reliable, high-quality, and resilient technology operations.
Prioritize and govern technology changes, ensuring execution during periods of minimal business disruption and without conflict across initiatives. This includes close collaboration with business partners and technology leaders.
Develop and execute a strategy to improve service levels and the effectiveness of service communications, supporting the organization’s goal of becoming a metrics-driven enterprise.
Recruit, develop, and lead a team of highly skilled engineers who are innovative problem-solvers and experienced across a broad range of technologies.
Serve as a clear, confident, and effective communicator, particularly during periods of elevated risk or crisis, given responsibility for enterprise incident response.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
12+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, including technology strategy, enterprise architecture, or service management.
Demonstrated expertise in technology lifecycle management, product management, and metrics- or OKR-based performance reporting.
Proven ability to lead large-scale transformation initiatives and engage effectively with executive stakeholders.
Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a strong executive presence.
