Site E&I Construction lead-(Oil, Gas & Water)

Job Description: Construction E&I Lead

Company: KBR

Location: Iraq (28/28 Rotational Assignment)

Nationality: Any

The Lead Construction Engineer (E&I) will drive construction readiness, optimize field execution strategies, and ensure effective coordination between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations. This position requires a seasoned professional capable of leading multidisciplinary teams and consistently achieving project safety, cost, schedule, and quality objectives

Accountability/ Expectations

  • Enhance construction safety performance by promoting modularization, standardized assemblies, pre‑fabricated E&I modules, and off‑site construction to reduce field exposure.
  • Develop brownfield and greenfield construction strategies, including tie‑in planning, SIMOPS coordination, shutdown integration, and live‑plant execution methodologies.
  • Identify and resolve E&I construction challenges such as cable routing conflicts, hazardous area compliance issues, and instrument accessibility constraints.
  • Monitor field productivity using discipline-specific KPIs (cable pulling rates, termination progress, loop completion curves, energization milestones).
  • Lead construction planning, ensuring detailed sequencing for electrical load transfer, instrument migration, and control system cutover activities.
  • Provide constructability input into electrical single-line diagrams, cable block diagrams, instrument indexes, control system architecture, and hazardous area layouts.
  • Ensure design decisions align with HSE, cost, schedule, and quality requirements, validating field feasibility and installation constraints.
  • Facilitate Constructability Reviews focused on cable routing, instrument maintainability, equipment lifting constraints, and hazardous area compliance.
  • Serve as the primary E&I construction interface from project inception through field execution.
  • Collaborate with Construction Management to develop execution plans covering power distribution, loop testing, control system migration, and cable management.
  • Manage multiple concurrent E&I work fronts, ensuring resource leveling and contractor performance oversight.
  • Ensure engineering and procurement deliverables (SLDs, ILDs, P&IDs, I/O lists, datasheets, cable drums, switchgear, instrument panels) align with construction sequencing and commissioning priorities.
  • Prepare detailed E&I work packages including cable schedules, termination sheets, loop diagrams, installation drawings, and material take-offs.
  • Review and update work package documentation, red-line markups, as-built records, and test documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/NEC standards, ATEX/IECEx requirements, grounding and bonding standards, and project-specific electrical safety rules.
  • Support commissioning teams in developing energization plans, loop testing protocols, instrument calibration procedures, and control system functional testing.
  • Ensure construction activities integrate seamlessly with commissioning, operations, and other discipline interfaces.
  • Advocate for cold-work strategies such as pre-terminated instrument cables, plug-and-play analyzer shelters, and pre-assembled marshalling cabinets.
  • Align construction execution with project scope, quality, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Ensure engineering and procurement deliverables meet construction and handover requirements.
  • Implement Work Face Planning to ensure crews receive fully validated work packages.
  • Support interfaces with operations, ensuring safe and efficient brownfield and greenfield execution.
  • Ensure final designs incorporate construction risk assessments and economic considerations.

Education

BSc. in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience Requirements

Minimum 10 + years experience in Oil & Gas E&I design, construction, and commissioning.

Strong understanding of:

  • LV/MV electrical distribution
  • Instrumentation installation and calibration
  • Loop testing and commissioning workflows
  • Proficiency in productivity measurement and resource-based planning (Level 4 Scheduling).
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in managing E&I construction teams and contractors.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work fronts and shifting priorities.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy, and safe execution.
