Job Description

This position exists to provide advising services to all SCTCC students that use the Academic Advising Center.  This includes the assignment as advisor to approximately 500 Associate of Arts (AA)/Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (Mn TC), Pre-Health/Pre-Nursing and Pathway degree seeking students.

Salary Range: $26.12 - $37.91/ hour or $54,539 - $79,156/year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience. Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of related experience; Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; Associates degree may substitute for six months of experience

  • Experience supporting, advising, mentoring, or working with students

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.    

  • Ability to take initiative in leading projects and initiatives independently, while also partnering and collaborating effectively with colleagues, students, and community partners.

  • Ability to apply equity-minded practices to support the academic success and engagement of students from diverse backgrounds and with varied abilities and interests.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, organize work, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate records and documentation.

Physical Requirement

The essential physical functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Ability to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while performing computer‑based tasks.

  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, and other standard office equipment with precision.

  • Ability to engage in tasks that require reviewing information on a screen or in written financial documents for sustained periods

  • Ability to move about the campus to access equipment or meet with colleagues.

  • Ability to occasionally transport, or move files, office materials, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds from various heights.

  • Ability to organize and handle documents that may require reaching, bending, or light filing.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience working with or a strong understanding of the challenges faced by underserved college students.

  • Experience developing and leading workshops, staffing tabling events, or conducting proactive student outreach effectively, with a demonstrated ability to initiate conversations and build connections with students and others.

  • Experience tracking and interpreting data relevant to their work and using that information for work and process improvement

  • Experience utilizing student information systems, databases, or case management software.

  • Bilingual/multilingual in Spanish, Somali, French, Hmong, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities.

Other Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
