The Manufacturing DesignEngineer team has the responsibility for evaluating technologies and identifying supply chainsolutions that allow Meta to deliver products to market at scale. We are seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer (Manufacturing Design Engineer) able to work independently to drive manufacturing solutions from concept through production. Specific hardware development and operations knowledge are required. As a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) in the Devices organization, you will be responsible for both technically proficient work with the engineering design and Operations teams, for critical parts of optical and mechanical components process development and manufacturing at vendors. You will collaborate across multiple projects with optical and mechanical product designers to enable novel Smart Glass, AR/VR experiences. You will be the interface between the Tech Ops Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to implement and execute comprehensive process and technical solutions for our products. **Required Skills:** Manufacturing Design Engineer - Mechanical Responsibilities: 1. Drive manufacturing process innovation in mechanical and optical component solutions 2. for Smart Devices and AR/VR products 3. Work with the Hardware Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, and Tech Ops team to identify, 4. audit and select the best suppliers’ partner (SPOR) to manufacture our products 5. Responsible for manufacturing processes (molding, forging, assembly, materials, 6. and surface finishes), cover window manufacturing (i.e. optical coatings, painting), film/lens lamination, die cut, laser cutting, adhesion (i.e. Optical Crystal Adhesion) 7. Process DFM, the process brings up and qualifications 8. Develop MP intent equipment, process and materials 9. Set CTQ criteria to validate key processes 10. Run statistical analysis from data collected through trials & investigations 11. Work with the internal Quality Team to define quality characterization, inspection 12. methodology, and qualification of components before components ship to downstream 13. vendors 14. Work with hardware engineering, quality and Reliability Teams to debug 15. mechanical/optical issues related to component development from NPI to ramp. Identify 16. root cause and provide improvements via process optimization and qualifications 17. Rewrite as a responsibility, e.g., "Lead program and operation support efforts, managing multiple concurrent workstreams," or move the qualification aspect to MINIMUM_QUALIFICATION or PREFERRED_QUALIFICATIONS 18. Need to travel to vendor sites to validate and support project developments 19. Based in Shanghai, Suzhou, or Shenzhen **Minimum Qualifications:** Minimum Qualifications: 20. Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or equivalent experience 21. 10+ years of technical hands-on experience with mechanical, display, camera or optical 22. manufacturing 23. Experience partnering with multiple cross functional partners 24. Experience with consumer electronics manufacturing and/or highly cosmetic parts 25. Familiar with statistical analysis from data gathered 26. Familiar with simple quality engineer works, such as defect characterization, yield 27. summary report and driving yield bridge FACA activities **Preferred Qualifications:** Preferred Qualifications: 28. paintings, PVD, pad printing, etc 29. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies 30. Experience with multiple surface finishing and coating methods. Optical coatings, 31. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews) 32. Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes, such as CNC, polishing, etc. Experience working with different materials, such as plastics, metals, and glass 33. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements) 34. 15+ years of manufacturing, optical process and surface finish development Experience 35. Experience with failure analysis (FA) and troubleshooting cosmetic and functional coating defects 36. Experience managing multiple suppliers across and/or multiple projects **Industry:** Internet
