American Express’ Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) team is responsible for leading the enterprise-wide Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, and Anti-Corruption compliance functions. This team has global responsibility for identifying, investigating, and reporting suspicious activity, including money laundering and terrorist financing, and provides broad analytical and operational support for the company’s enterprise-wide AML function. GFCC is part of the broader Global Risk & Compliance organization. 

 

The GFCC Risk Management team manages various financial crimes compliance programs, including the Customer Risk Rating, Money Laundering Risk Assessment, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) programs, and is responsible for business ownership of the CADENCE platform, GFCC metrics and reporting, and process risk self-assessments. The team is responsible for risk management, program health monitoring, governance, and enhancements and facilitates alignment across GFCC and broader stakeholder teams in managing and overseeing these programs.

 

 

As the expectations of our regulators across the globe continue to grow, we need to ensure that our Financial Crimes program continues to be effective and efficient globally, while also delivering to regulatory expectations at a market level.  The successful candidate will sit within the GFCC Program Management Office and will be supporting initiatives related to the oversight of the KYC/Enhanced Due Diligence program, partnering with GFCC, market compliance, business and product owner colleagues to drive enhancements to the EDD program, including improvements to process documentation, strengthened process and system controls, assisting in establishing oversight processes, and enabling visibility into the health of the program through reporting. They will have the proven ability to work collaboratively across markets and functions simultaneously and to thrive in a changing environment, as well as experience working on global initiatives.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Support documentation of processes, roles, and guidelines.

  • Help track change requests and follow up with stakeholders for updates.

  • Coordinate with different teams (business, product, technology) for basic information gathering.

  • Support in preparing reports, presentations, and status updates.

  • Maintain organized records and ensure documents are updated regularly.

  • Assist the team in day-to-day governance/MOM and oversight activities/ maintaining action tracker.

 

  • Basic knowledge of data analysis and SQL queries. Willingness to learn, good analytical skills, and basic proficiency in Excel.

  • Track record of success in program governance, project management, product management, strategy development and implementation preferably within a compliance or risk management organization.

  • Strong management, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and engage stakeholders.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to work with data accurately.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly share information and document findings effectively. 

  • Willingness to collaborate and work effectively with team members and stakeholders across different functions and global locations.

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. 

  • Proven to have a global mindset; able to work well across time zones and work cultures.

  • A working knowledge of the Financial Crimes program would be beneficial, although not essential, as would experience within Operational Excellence, Audit or Compliance.
