Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer Manager (Network Operations Team Lead) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. 

 

Peraton supports the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Office of Secure Transportation (OST), which is responsible for the safe and secure transportation of nuclear weapons, components, and special nuclear materials throughout the United States. Operating under strict security requirements, OST relies on highly secure communications, networking, and command and control systems to support its mission. The Network Engineer Senior serves as the Network Operations Team Lead, providing technical leadership and oversight for the network infrastructure that enables these critical operations.

 

Location: Onsite in Albuquerque, NM (primary location), with travel to field locations as required.

 

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior technical lead and team lead for all network operations supporting the NNSA OST IT program
  • Design, implement, and maintain classified and unclassified network infrastructure at OST facilities and field locations
  • Ensure all network systems comply with DOE cybersecurity orders, NIST SP 800-53 controls, FISMA requirements, and the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Lead network incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for network outages or security events
  • Develop and maintain network architecture documentation, configuration baselines, and as-built diagrams
  • Coordinate with NNSA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) on enterprise IT standards and network policy compliance
  • Support Authority to Operate (ATO) processes by providing network security documentation and evidence packages
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate hardware/software procurement and lifecycle management
  • Lead network capacity planning and technology refresh initiatives
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network engineers and technicians
  • Prepare and present network status reports, metrics, and briefings to program management and government stakeholders

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 12 years of experience, may have supervisory or management experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess an active DOE Q Clearance (equivalent to a Top Secret clearance) and be eligible for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP).
  • May be required to travel to OST field locations
  • Must be able to work in a secure facility environment and comply with all OST security protocols
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Engineering Manager within the last 5 years.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure in classified or unclassified federal environments.
  • Experience supporting mission critical environments within DoD, DOE, the Intelligence Community, or similar organizations.
  • Experience implementing network automation, AI enabled operations, and enterprise monitoring solutions using Ansible, Terraform, Cisco DNA Center, SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or equivalent.
  • Experience leading network modernization, technology refresh, or infrastructure transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing network engineering teams, including workload prioritization, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise routing, switching, firewalls, network security, and high availability architectures.

Certification Requirement:

  • ITIL v4 Foundation (or higher) certification required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience or Master's degree with 10 years of experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise environments with 500+ network nodes across geographically dispersed locations.
  • Experience supporting federal IT contracts valued at $10M or greater.
  • Experience leveraging AI and machine learning for network anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and automated remediation.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE (SY0-701).
  • CISSP.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
