MedTech Field Service Engineer Dialysis Hydraulics
About the Role
Our MedTech Field Service Engineers experience a unique opportunity to apply their biomedical equipment, mechanical service, and customer-facing field expertise in support of a nationwide medical device field action. This project-based role supports the removal and replacement of hydraulic assemblies across approximately 1,000 fielded dialysis machines located throughout the United States.
The Mechanical Mid-Level Field Service Engineer will provide hands-on technical support at customer sites, completing hydraulic assembly replacements, system rinse and flush activities, required testing and calibration, and detailed documentation. This role requires strong technical discipline, professional communication, and the ability to travel extensively to support coordinated regional deployment plans.
Because machines are actively in use, work will need to be planned around clinic operations and available site access windows. After-hours and weekend support may be required to minimize disruption to customer operations and help support target completion timelines.
Project Scope
- Replace hydraulic assemblies across approximately 1,000 fielded dialysis machines nationwide.
- Support geographically dispersed units through coordinated regional deployment plans.
- Handle hydraulic assemblies weighing approximately 40-50 lbs; assemblies may ship on pallets containing 4-8 units.
- Use available dollies and other approved equipment to support equipment lifting, movement, and manipulation.
- Complete an estimated 3-hour service event per machine, subject to site conditions and customer access windows.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform hydraulic assembly removal and replacement on fielded dialysis machines in accordance with approved work instructions and customer requirements.
- Complete system rinse, flush, testing, and calibration activities required after hydraulic assembly replacement.
- Accurately document service completion, unit status, results, exceptions, and follow-up needs in designated tracking systems or customer workflows.
- Coordinate with field leadership, schedulers, program management, and customer site contacts to support efficient routing and timely completion of assigned work.
- Follow all applicable safety, quality, documentation, and compliance expectations while working in active clinical environments.
- Support logistics coordination related to receipt, movement, staging, and return or disposition of hydraulic assemblies and related materials.
- Communicate schedule risks, access issues, incomplete site data, product concerns, or service barriers promptly to field leadership and program management.
- Provide updates, reports, and field-level feedback to support documentation, completion tracking, and continuous improvement throughout the program.
- Maintain professional conduct when interacting with customer personnel, clinic staff, and internal IQVIA/client stakeholders.
- Support after-hours and weekend coverage as needed based on clinic availability, site access windows, and program timelines.
Schedule and Travel Requirements
- Field-based project assignment requiring extensive travel throughout assigned regions and potentially nationwide.
- Candidates should reside within approximately one hour of a major airport to support deployment flexibility.
- After-hours and weekend work will likely be required due to clinic schedules and machine availability.
- Travel and training bill rate to align with in-service rate until otherwise clarified.
- Deployment is expected to begin as quickly as possible following contract execution, with a target completion by the end of November.
Required Qualifications
- Mid-level BMET, Field Service Engineer, or equivalent mechanical/biomedical equipment service experience required.
- Hands-on mechanical service experience supporting medical equipment, capital equipment, dialysis equipment, or comparable electromechanical systems.
- Ability to remove, replace, rinse, flush, test, calibrate, and document service activities according to approved procedures.
- Ability to lift, move, and manipulate equipment or assemblies weighing approximately 40-50 lbs with available material-handling support.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete accurate documentation and completion tracking.
- Professional communication skills and ability to work effectively with clinic personnel, customer contacts, and internal teams.
- Ability to travel extensively and maintain schedule flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and after-hours support as needed.
- Valid driver license and ability to meet applicable travel, site access, and customer requirements.
- Ability to comply with customer, clinic, and healthcare facility access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior dialysis equipment service experience strongly preferred.
- Previous BMET, medical device field service, recall, corrective action, or field action deployment experience preferred.
- Experience working in active clinical, dialysis center, hospital, or outpatient care environments preferred.
- Experience supporting geographically dispersed field programs, regional routing, or multi-site service campaigns preferred.
- Comfort using digital service documentation, completion tracking tools, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
Operational Considerations
- Machines actively in use: Technicians must coordinate service windows and avoid taking multiple machines offline simultaneously.
- Variable clinic access: Site timing may vary by customer schedule, requiring flexibility and clear communication.
- After-hours/weekend coverage: Evening or weekend work may be needed to complete service activities without disrupting clinic operations.
- Hydraulic assembly logistics: Movement, staging, transportation, and tracking of assemblies will be a key operational requirement.
- Site-level data quality: Accurate customer-provided site data is critical for validating scope, staffing needs, routing, and completion planning.
IQVIA Support Model
- Field technician deployment to support regional and nationwide service coverage.
- Scheduling and coordination across customer sites, technician availability, and access windows.
- Documentation and compliance tracking to support completion visibility and audit readiness.
- Recall / field action platform support as needed.
- Full program management or integration into customer workflows based on final customer requirements.
