Department Overview

The Business Support Development Department (BSD) plays a crucial role in supporting various business operations that occur between users, clients, and Rakuten businesses from a systems perspective. Our division provides diverse services across four key domains: DATA, Business Support/Accounting, CRM, and AI Agent, which builds the foundation for leveraging AI across the entire Rakuten organization. We are committed to pursuing business process optimization and efficiency while delivering high value through our system offerings.

AI Agent Development Section, established under BSD in January 2026, is dedicated to building next-generation AI agent frameworks that empower Rakuten’s diverse business units through AI technology.

Our mission is to reshape the digital future of E-commerce by building AI-native solutions that empower Rakuten merchants, catalyze new revenue growth, and radically reduce operational costs.

Our main goal is to unify Merchant Communication Services.

Consolidating fragmented communication services into a single, cohesive merchant interface to streamline communication and user experience.

Position:

Position Details

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading projects through the whole project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will be as follows:

- Strategic Planning: Define project goals and scope by working closely with executives, business leaders, product managers, and technical teams.

- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.

- Execution & Delivery: Oversee project execution, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards. Proactively manage risks and issues.

- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main contact for executives, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and progress.

- Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and optimizing resource use.

- Quality Assurance: Work with the QA team to ensure the Ichiba platform is thoroughly tested and meets all quality requirements.

- Launch Coordination: Coordinate the successful launch of new features and platform enhancements.

- Process Improvement: Identify and implement ways to improve project management processes and methods.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- More than 7 years of experience in project management for system development.

- Experience of management for large scale projects (e.g. Over 20 staff/month, parallel development).

- Experience of budget management, cost management.

- Ability to read Japanese specifications and communicate in Japanese.

Desired Qualifications:

- Knowledge of System Development.

- Experience of reporting to executive/management level.

- Proactively test and validate the latest AI, generative AI tools, and automation solutions.
