Seasonal, Tax Research Specialist
About the Role
As a Tax Research Specialist, you will research moderately complex state and local tax issues and draft detailed memoranda and guidance documents for various internal departments and tax teams. You will analyze, evaluate, and recommend tax forms to enhance our existing suite of tax products, as well as assist with state programs and projects.
Day to day, you’ll…
Research, analyze, and evaluate current year state tax forms, vendor specifications, letters of intent, and requirements to identify, document, and advise company of tax changes impacting company compliance with state Departments of Revenue (DOR)
Assist tax software developers by researching and answering tax related questions
Use developed research skills to unravel moderately complex tax situations into the fundamental tax points as they are applicable to current, proposed, or past law
Make recommendations to tax product teams on forms that may need to be added to or removed from the existing suite of forms
Coordinate, develop, and/or assist in researching tax issues to support other corporate departments such as Government Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Legal, Insurance, Software Development, Pricing & Analytics, and Field Training
Coordinate and/or participate in work teams as necessary for the analysis and preparation of summaries of passed and proposed tax law
Edit, review, and fact check a variety of tax-related materials produced by self and others to verify accuracy and completeness of material
Ensure that assigned projects are completed on or before agreed upon deadlines
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and correctly formulate solutions to highly complex tax situations
- Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining focus, and perform assignments in a highly detailed and accurate manner
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with at least one online tax research tool
- Understanding and previous use of a Windows-based computer system and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- 1 year(s) of experience in tax research, tax preparation, or a related field, with strong knowledge of tax law
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
- Circular 230 credential (attorney, EA or CPA)
- Experience in multi-state tax preparation or concepts
- Judicial Clerkship or experience writing memoranda of law
