In this position... 

As an Application Software Engineer specializing in COTS support, you will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and integration of our essential Commercial Off-The-Shelf applications. You will leverage your strong technical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex issues, perform deep dives into application code and databases, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement effective solutions. A key expectation for this role is to become a subject matter expert (SME), developing a deep understanding of the application's functionality and underlying architecture.

 

What you'll do...

  • Diagnose complex issues by analyzing and interpreting existing application codebases, logs, and database schemas
  • Perform deep dives into application code and databases to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement effective, lasting solutions
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise in the application's functionality and underlying architecture
  • Support and maintain API integrations (e.g., REST, SOAP) connecting COTS applications to other systems
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, maintaining strong organization and attention to detail
  • Apply Agile methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Test, debug, and troubleshoot software issues using established testing frameworks and tools
  • Apply software security principles and best practices in day-to-day work
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, vendors, and other engineers
  • Communicate findings, progress, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You'll have...

  • Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ year of professional experience in software development, system integration, or supporting enterprise-level COTS applications by investigating existing codebases and database structures
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (core database requirement)
  • Familiarity with Windows Server based operating systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug and troubleshoot complex issues
  • Experience with software testing frameworks and tools
  • Understanding of software security principles and practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities

 

Even better, you may have...

  • Experience or familiarity with web technologies like HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js
  • Experience with additional database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
  • Experience with the MQTT protocol
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Familiarity with JIRA or other project management tools
  • Proficiency in working with JSON data structures
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies

This position is a salary grade 5 – salary grade 8 and ranges from $65,100-$166,200.     

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
