The Role
Stuff reaches more than 2 million New Zealanders every month, real traffic, real audiences, real public-interest journalism. We’re looking for a UX Designer who wants to work at that scale, someone who’s as comfortable in a research session as they are in Figma, and who gets genuinely excited about the design problems that come with building products people rely on every day. We’re looking for a UX Designer who wants to do more than create beautiful interfaces. We want someone who is passionate about understanding people, solving complex problems and shaping digital experiences that make a real difference.
This is an opportunity to influence products at national scale, working across one of New Zealand’s most recognised digital brands while helping define how AI, personalisation and emerging technologies can create better experiences for audiences.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, editorial teams and analysts to uncover user needs, translate insights into elegant solutions, and deliver experiences that are intuitive, accessible and impactful.
From discovery through to delivery, you’ll own the UX process, including:
- Conducting user research, usability testing and audience discovery
- Creating user journeys, wireframes, prototypes and interaction designs
- Turning qualitative and quantitative insights into product opportunities
- Designing experiences across web, mobile and emerging digital platforms
- Running experiments and validating ideas through testing and data
- Championing accessibility and inclusive design practices
- Contributing to and evolving our design systems
- Collaborating closely with engineering teams to bring designs to life
- Using AI-powered tools to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping and optimisation
Stuff is at an inflection point. The way people discover and consume digital content is shifting fast, and we’re building the products that sit right in the middle of that change. You’ll be working on experiences that affect how millions of New Zealanders interact with news and content every day, with real design problems, real audiences, and real stakes. We’re also actively exploring how AI can make our products smarter and our team faster. If you want to be close to that work, this is the place to be.
What you’ll bring

- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design thinking and delivered outcomes
- Expertise in user research, usability testing and customer-centred design
- Advanced proficiency in Figma and modern prototyping tools

- Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
- Experience working within agile product environments
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders
- A collaborative approach and genuine passion for creating exceptional user experiences
- News, media, content or consumer digital products
- AI-assisted design tools and workflows
- Personalisation, recommendation engines or conversational interfaces
- Experimentation, A/B testing and optimisation programmes
What you’ll get
- The opportunity to influence products used by millions of New Zealanders
- A talented, supportive and highly collaborative team
- The freedom to explore new ideas, technologies and ways of working
- Meaningful work that supports quality journalism and informed communities
