Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Computer Systems Engineer/Architect to provide virtual machine and Linux support in an enterprise-level environment, supporting the Information Technology Services Desk and Engineering Support program for a Contract at U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

 

Peraton is providing maintenance and operational IT support that includes engineering services for the systems, equipment, hardware, and software. This engineer will design and develop solutions to complex application problems, system administration issues or network concerns; and performance systems management and integration functions.  Part of our support team works onsite in Washington, DC at a government facility and candidates do need to be within local commuting distance to DC.  Primarily, our engineers telework with occasional need to work onsite in DC, or to the data center in Ashburn, VA.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Performs day-to-day activities related to the support, research, analysis, and implementation of VMware, Linux, Windows systems, storage and infrastructure.  Considerable knowledge, experience, and understanding of working in a VMware, Linux and Windows environment is required.  

  

This includes:

  • Thorough knowledge of and in-depth experience with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, system testing, OS upgrade, backup, recovery and software patch installation and testing in a VMware, Linux, and Windows environment.
  • Experience with standard server networking protocols, storage and data management.
  • In-depth experience with medium to large-scale enterprise VMware and Windows environments.
  • Experience with providing technical support in a hybrid, cloud-only or virtual environment.
  • Experience working with and writing PowerShell scripting.
  • Excellent communication & collaborative skills.
  • Collaborate and notify Government representative of issues involving performance of the operating environment.
  • Perform daily health checks, review, and respond to events reflected in various management tools, perform server patch management.
  • Conduct system audit reviews and perform maintenance functions as required to ensure system health and optimization.
  • Work with the Government to identify virtual servers no longer needed or to be decommissioned.
  • Deliver recommendations on best practices, including recommendations on moving the current storage and virtualization infrastructure from a hybrid environment to cloud-only.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Experience with and knowledge of: VMware technologies, including:
    • AirWatch (Workspace ONE)
    • Horizon
    • PIV-D
    • Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
    • vCloud Suite
    • vRealize
    • vCenter
    • vSphere
  • Must have experience with:
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Microsoft Group Policy
    • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Experience with system design, architecture, and solution development.
  • Strong understanding of VMware ESXi, vCenter, networking, and storage infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of NetApp Storage Area Networks (SAN) and related storage technologies.
  • Ability to provide operations and maintenance support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows Server in a classified enterprise environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance.

  • Hands-on experience with:
    • VMware vRealize
    • VMware vCenter
    • VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA)
    • Datastore and network management
  • Experience using Red Hat Satellite for system management, backup, and restore.
  • Knowledge of the DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) process and compliance.
  • Experience with patch management tools
  • Experience administering:
    • Active Directory
    • Group Policy Objects (GPO)
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Domain Controllers

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
