This position serves as an Advance Technician for Outpatient Care settings such as; Primary Care, Mental Health, and Specialty Clinics. As an Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist the incumbent may serve in a Medical Center, Community-Based outpatient clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.205) for this occupation. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Program is a program designed to hire former military corpsmen, combat medics and medical technicians into positions at VA Medical Centers as an integral part of the medical team. This Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) position is with the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Service within the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advanced technician for PACT patients who are present for treatment. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performing ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, licensed independent provider (LIP), and/or advanced practice provider (APP) assigned. Communicating effectively with their supervising physicians, licensed independent provider (LIP), and advanced practice provider (APP) to provide collaborative, timely and appropriate patient care. Performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in a clinical care setting. Assisting critical care licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations. Operating specialized medical equipment. Performing specimen collection. Responding to medical emergencies on the facility grounds, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code Blue, or medical transport team. Performs other duties as assigned within the training and competencies of the role. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. They possess fundamental knowledge, background and experience in emergency medicine, critical care, medical readiness, field medicine, bedside care, and primary care. This role provides a higher level of clinical support to both nursing and medicine. ICT Program Mission and Vision - The ICT Program is designed to (1) allow ICTs to function in a health care role commensurate with their military education, training and experience without the need for a license or additional credential; (2) enhance quality of care and patient satisfaction among Veterans in multiple clinical settings and; (3) enable a path for ICTs to attain licensed professional roles through advanced education and clinical opportunities for long-term VA employment.
