This position is open only to VHA current and permanent employees. The Syracuse VA Medical Center is seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff. The Deputy Chief of Staff is the primary backup to the Chief of Staff and provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership to help ensure achievement of the Medical Center's clinical, research, and educational goals.
The Deputy Chief of Staff is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff for clinical program activities and overall compliance to VA, VHA and VISN-wide policies and procedures. This includes, but it is not limited to the following along with other assigned duties: Clinical Work: Provides direct patient care on an intermittent basis and clinical oversight in: Ambulatory and Primary Care; or Other specialty areas where qualified to provide clinical patient care Patient Care: Bases planning on patient and staff feedback and projected needs Plans the provision of services with a patient-centered vision (in alignment with VHA guidelines and policies) to enhance patient education and shared decision making Establishes a customer-oriented culture and promotes the hiring of persons who demonstrate the VA's iCARE values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. Actively identifies and encourages the implementation of best practices in customer service Quality Improvement: Serves as lead physician for quality improvement initiatives and utilization management Develops high-reliability organization through direction of the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality-of-care through utilization of multiple quality measurement tools Improves patient outcomes through the implementation of strategies such a clinical practice guidelines and critical pathways, health risk assessments, provider profiling, use of electronic medical record and clinical reminders, and case management. Research and Education: Encourages and supports our research and education missions Works closely with the Associate Chief of Staff for Education & Simulation Facilitates translation of research findings into improved patient outcomes Budget and Fiscal Management: Under the direction of the SVAMC governance structure, collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team and service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Health Care System strategic and business plan Collaborates with other Medical Center leaders to develop initiatives and programs in order to ensure coordination of service, reduction of redundancies, and enhancement of cost effectiveness, efficiency and overall productivity Organizational Stewardship: Demonstrate commitment to the Syracuse VA Medical Center goals Encourages an atmosphere of trust, psychological safety and empowerment by example Manages relationships with academic affiliates and supporting services to maximize efficiency and drive highly reliable operations Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
