We're looking for an exceptional Director of Events to lead and grow our national events business. This is a senior leadership role with the opportunity to shape the strategy, commercial performance and future direction of a diverse portfolio that spans large-scale consumer and trade events, business conferences, speaker series, corporate functions and boutique experiences.

From Round the Bays in three cities, to NZ House & Garden tours across the nation, our events team execute with creativity and energy.

The opportunity
Reporting to the Managing Director, you'll set the vision for Stuff's events portfolio and lead a talented team to deliver market-leading experiences that support our audiences, partners and communities.
You'll bring together commercial thinking, creativity and operational excellence to ensure every event delivers exceptional experiences while contributing to Stuff's long-term growth.
This role offers significant influence across the organisation, working closely with senior leaders in editorial, commercial, marketing and audience teams to develop innovative events that strengthen our brands and create lasting value.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and deliver the long-term strategy for Stuff's national events portfolio.
  • Drive sustainable diversified revenue growth through sponsorship, ticketing, exhibitions, partnerships, grant funding and new commercial opportunities.
  • Lead the financial performance of the business, with full responsibility for budget delivery.
  • Identify emerging trends and create new event concepts that grow audiences and diversify revenue.
  • Build trusted relationships with sponsors, partners, suppliers, exhibitors and key stakeholders.
  • Champion exceptional customer experiences across every stage of the event journey.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of events that are operationally outstanding, safe and commercially successful.
  • Inspire, coach and develop a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • Work across Stuff to maximise the power of our brands, marketing channels, journalism and audience insights.
  • Embrace emerging technology, AI-powered tools and data-led decision making to improve planning, customer engagement, operational efficiency and commercial performance.

About you
You'll be an experienced senior events leader with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for creating experiences that people remember.

You'll bring:
  • Significant leadership experience managing large and diverse event portfolios.
  • A proven track record of delivering strong commercial results and sustainable business growth.
  • Experience managing P&L, budgets and complex revenue streams.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify and capitalise on new market opportunities.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing successful teams.
  • Strong negotiation, planning and project management capability.
  • Confidence working across marketing, sales, editorial and commercial functions.
  • A commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and using technology to enhance event delivery.
  • Relevant qualifications in event management, marketing or a related discipline are desirable.
