Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a Product Machinist(s) to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia. The available shift hours are 2nd shift, M-F 2pm-10pm, 3rd shift, M-F 10pm-6am (starts Sunday night), WE shift, F-Sun 6am-6pm, and WE shift, F-Sun 6pm-6am. Training is 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm.
New Hire Starting Rate: $24.52 p/hr.; After 6 months: $27.25 p/hr.
This position will receive an hourly “shift premium” of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.
Job Summary: The Product Machinist will tend to one or more machine tools to machine metal and plastic work pieces to specifications on production basis.
Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:
- Ability to read and follow the information on work instructions.
- Record date either manually or by computer as required.
- Set up and operate drill press, surface grinders, vertical milling machines, and engine lathes in operations to tolerances within ± .0005".
- Capacity to lift work pieces up to 25lbs. manually and/or use hoist for work pieces 25lbs. or over to secure work piece in fixture or device.
- Inspects and use calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, pin gauges, and borematic instruments to measure machined work pieces to verify conformance to specification within ± .0005".
- Logs data on company network and tracks parts by use of routing cards.
- Fabricates parts from sample drawings and/or sketches for use within the plant.
- Machines plastics or other nonmetals to specifications within ± .002".
- Perform routine maintenance by replacing worn machine accessories, such as cutting tools, add coolant to machine reservoirs, file, send, or shape machined parts and clean parts, as necessary.
- Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.
- Ability to work in team environments and individually and work with all levels management, engineering, and other departments.
- Willing to participate in continuous improvements initiatives within our process to enhance the work task.
Basic Qualifications:

- This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- This position requires a minimum of one year of CNC manufacturing experience and/or training.
- Availability for all shifts (including 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and weekend shift) is necessary. The ability to work overtime and weekends is required as schedules may vary based on operational needs; flexibility is essential.
