This is a high-impact engineering role within a fast-growing health technology startup building a modern at-home blood testing and health insights platform. You will help design and scale backend systems that power secure, HIPAA-compliant healthcare experiences used by patients to track and understand their biomarker data over time. The role involves full ownership of features from architecture and design through production deployment and ongoing monitoring. You will work across a modern TypeScript-based stack, contributing to backend services, APIs, and system design decisions in a highly collaborative and product-driven environment. This is a fast-moving startup where engineers are expected to operate with autonomy, strong ownership, and comfort navigating ambiguity. Accountabilities:

    • Own and deliver backend features end-to-end, from system design and architecture discussions through production deployment and monitoring.
    • Design and build secure, scalable, and HIPAA-compliant backend services with a strong focus on privacy, reliability, and data protection.
    • Develop and maintain APIs and services using TypeScript, Node.js, Express, and related backend technologies.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical solutions and system designs.
    • Build and maintain robust data models using PostgreSQL and optimize performance across backend systems.
    • Implement reliable testing strategies to ensure system stability and prevent regressions across services.
    • Document systems, architectures, and technical decisions to support team velocity and knowledge sharing.
    • Leverage modern AI tools and SDKs to enhance product capabilities and accelerate development workflows.
    • Requirements:

      • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend or full-stack expertise.
      • Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and experience building production-grade backend systems.
      • Strong understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, and relational database design (PostgreSQL preferred).
      • Experience working in fast-paced startup environments with high autonomy and minimal structure.
      • Proven ability to break down ambiguous problems and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
      • Experience writing and maintaining automated tests using tools such as Jest, Vitest, or Cypress.
      • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with product and engineering teams.
      • Comfort using AI tools as development accelerators without relying on them for core engineering decisions.
