Chemical Application Engineer
The Chemical Application Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and supervising chemical cleaning, flushing, passivation, pre-commissioning, and mechanical cleaning activities for industrial and commercial systems. The role ensures the safe and effective cleaning and commissioning of piping networks, HVAC systems, chilled water networks, district cooling plants, data centers, power generation facilities, and industrial process systems while maintaining compliance with company procedures, customer specifications, and HSE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
- Plan and execute chemical cleaning, flushing, passivation, and mechanical cleaning projects.
- Review project specifications, P&IDs, method statements, and flushing procedures.
- Conduct site surveys and assess system readiness before mobilization.
- Supervise flushing operations for:
- Chilled water systems
- Condenser water systems
- District cooling networks
- Closed-loop systems
- HVAC systems
- Industrial process piping
- Execute chemical cleaning and passivation programs according to approved procedures.
- Monitor system parameters including flow rates, pressure, velocity, pH, conductivity, turbidity, and chemical concentrations.
Technical Support
- Develop flushing methodologies and chemical cleaning procedures.
- Determine suitable chemicals, equipment, filtration systems, and dosing requirements.
- Troubleshoot system contamination, corrosion, scaling, and debris issues.
- Prepare technical reports, flushing certificates, and completion documentation.
- Provide technical recommendations to clients and project teams.
Equipment Management
- Operate and maintain:
- Flushing pumps
- Temporary filtration units
- Dosing systems
- Chemical circulation skids
- Water treatment equipment
- Monitoring instruments
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of site equipment.
- Manage chemical inventory and consumables required for projects.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure compliance with company and client HSE standards.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessments prior to execution.
- Implement safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal practices.
- Lead toolbox talks and safety briefings for site personnel.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to permit-to-work systems.
Customer & Project Coordination
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, and operations personnel.
- Attend project meetings and provide technical updates.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Ensure project completion within budget and timeline requirements.
Quality Assurance
- Verify flushing and cleaning acceptance criteria are achieved.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, test results, and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards, and quality procedures.
- Support commissioning and handover activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–7 years of experience in:
- Chemical cleaning
- Pre-commissioning activities
- Flushing operations
- Water treatment applications
- Industrial services
- Experience with HVAC, district cooling, data centers, power plants, or industrial facilities is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning and passivation chemistry.
- Understanding of water treatment principles and corrosion control.
- Ability to read P&IDs, isometric drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Familiarity with commissioning and pre-commissioning activities.
- Experience operating flushing and filtration equipment.
- Knowledge of industry standards and HSE requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical reporting.
