Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Technical Lab Assistant, you will primarily support lab technical departments, performing technical procedures within regulatory guidelines. This includes receiving, preparing, labeling, and aliquoting specimens to ensure accurate processing and efficient turnaround times. You will also assist with clerical duties and, as permitted, perform CLIA-waived and moderate complex testing.
Every day, you will practice positive patient identification, perform department specimen intake, processing, and organization, and assist with department support functions such as culture plating, histology staining, and specimen loading on instruments. You will be expected to review pending test lists, monitor and stock department supplies, and perform routine equipment maintenance to assure efficiency and turnaround time requirements are met.
To be successful in this role, you must be a highly skilled professional capable of executing precise specimen handling and technical support with exceptional attention to detail. You must be instrumental in accelerating critical laboratory turnaround times through expert specimen processing, efficiently handling essential clerical duties, and thriving in a fast-paced environment where your precision and efficiency directly contribute to accurate medical understanding and patient care.
- Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions. Receives and prepares various specimens for analysis. Properly labels and aliquots.
- Performs department specimen intake, processing and organization for the technical testing area.
- Performs department support functions, ie culture plating, histology staining, specimen loading on instruments depending upon department needs and organization.
- Reviews pending test lists to assist with department turnaround time.
- Assists in solving problems, investigates specimen issues and customer inquiries. Provides information regarding specimen and testing status as appropriate.
- Monitors and stocks department supplies and reagents. Logs reagents and supplies, following department protocols.
Job Requirements
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six (6) months of clinical laboratory experience
Preferred
- Lab Assistant Program and six (6) months experience in an acute care facility
- Completed phlebotomy program
