Job Summary

Your Career:

Welcome to the Platform Engineering DevEx group—the driving force behind Palo Alto internal developer platform! We are entering an exciting era of growth and innovation, building out specialized pillars to champion a truly world-class developer experience. We are looking for an inspiring Principal Platform Engineer to serve as our technical anchor, visionary, and culture-builder. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to elevate the way hundreds of developers worldwide build, deploy, and thrive every single day. You won’t just build tools; you will cultivate an environment of empowerment and high velocity. By defining the "North Star" vision for our internal platform as a premium SaaS product, you will transform the "Frontend of DevOps" (Self-Service Portals, Automations, and Insights) into a seamless, joyful experience that engineers love to use. If you are passionate about cutting-edge cloud tech, delighting internal users, and bridging big-picture strategy with engineering excellence, we’d love to have you build the future with us.

Your Impact:

  • Architect the multi-year vision and technology stack for our Internal Developer Portal (IDP), ensuring scalability and a frictionless developer experience.

  • Standardize and govern backend logic and API frameworks for self-service infrastructure, enabling teams to autonomously scaffold services and provision resources.

  • Develop and own the strategy for 'Service Maturity Scorecards' and organizational insights by aggregating and analyzing data from the SDLC toolchain.

  • Architect a resilient, event-driven automation framework to integrate the global toolchain (e.g., Kubernetes, GitHub) and eliminate manual 'TicketOps'.

  • Serve as the primary advocate for the platform, gathering feedback, cultivating an InnerSource culture, and mentoring senior engineers.

Qualifications

Your Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, or Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience in a related field.

  • Proven experience architecting and building internal developer platforms (IDPs) or similar large-scale engineering systems.

  • Deep expertise in cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes, and experience with multi-cloud environments.

  • Strong background in designing and implementing event-driven automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy and act as a mentor for senior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 'Golden Path' methodologies and creating self-service infrastructure for developers.

  • Familiarity with data aggregation and analysis for engineering metrics, such as DORA.

  • Experience cultivating an InnerSource culture within a global R&D organization.

  • Proficiency with tools like Backstage, LaunchDarkly, and Artifactory.
