Why this role matters?

As a Managing Consultant-Graphic Designer, you will support ERM's global consulting delivery by leading the creative development and visual execution of sustainability communications for clients worldwide. Working within ERM Marketing & Communications Agency (MCA), you will collaborate with consultants, creative specialists, and client stakeholders across regions to translate complex ESG and sustainability topics into impactful visual experiences across reports, digital platforms, campaigns, stakeholder engagement programs, websites, digital dashboards, and branding systems. This role is critical to delivering innovative communications that enhance client impact, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and support the scalability and consistency of ERM's global delivery model.

  • Deliver high-quality creative direction and design solutions that translate complex sustainability and ESG topics into engaging and accessible communications.

  • Lead the successful execution of client projects across print, digital, branding, reporting, web, and stakeholder engagement channels while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

  • Build trusted relationships with internal teams and clients, serving as a strategic creative advisor and confident presenter of design concepts and recommendations.

  • Mentor and develop graphic designers through effective people leadership, coaching, performance management, and career development support.

  • Drive innovation by incorporating emerging design trends, digital best practices, and AI-enabled approaches into creative processes and client solutions.

  • Contribute to the growth of ERM MCA by supporting proposal development, business development activities, and the continuous enhancement of design standards, processes, and capabilities.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design/visual communications (or equivalent).

  • 8-10 years of professional graphic design experience (agency experience preferred).

  • Two or more years of experience managing a small team.

  • Strength in people leadership, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Exceptional portfolio showcasing print, interactive, and branding work.

  • Breadth of previous work in multi-page document and editorial layout design (annual/sustainability reports, books, brochures, magazines, etc.).

  • Superior understanding of typography and page layout.

  • Extreme attention to detail and proven commitment to quality control, including maintaining file hygiene.

  • Strength in client communications and leading design-focused discussions.

  • Ability to communicate complex information to a broad audience of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

  • Proficient in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), and Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).

  • Solid understanding of UX/UI design for digital experiences.

  • Knowledge of CSS and HTML.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Highly creative mindset with the ability to balance innovation with client brand standards and project requirements.

  • Able to work extended hours when necessary.

  • Open to input, feedback, and collaboration with colleagues and fellow creatives.

  • Ability to handle conflict and manage difficult conversations internally and externally.

Preferred skills & competencies

  • Knowledge of environmental, social, or economic aspects of sustainability.

  • Consulting industry, marketing, or advertising experience providing services to large corporate clients.

  • AI integration into business tasks and design processes.

  • Estimating design and marketing budgets.

  • Digital accessibility for websites and PDFs.

  • Experience with Webflow.

  • Video and animation production.

  • Illustration talent.

  • Photo retouching capabilities.

  • Print management and professional printing file preparation.

  • 3D rendering.

  • Social media experience on major platforms, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide art directions to graphic designers on client sustainability communications, including reports, websites, campaigns, identity systems, digital dashboards, informational graphics, video, animation, and stakeholder engagement materials.

  • Consult with client teams and directly with clients on creative, engaging ways to leverage communications in the digital space.

  • Build strong and trusted relationships internally and externally.

  • Research and report on design trends to the design team and ERM’s Visual Communication Design technical community.

  • Serve as a People Leader for a small team of one to two graphic designers, including managing tasks, mentoring, conducting performance reviews, and setting career goals.

  • Lead recruiting and onboarding efforts, including working with ERM recruiters, reviewing design résumés, conducting candidate interviews, and onboarding new designers.

  • Present design work, answer questions, and provide strategic insight on client calls.

  • Aid the design team in setting up and managing client design project schedules.

  • Oversee existing design rules and processes with design team.

  • Work with Head of Design and EMEA Lead in design sales and promotion through identifying opportunities, developing estimates, reviewing and contributing to proposals, and maintaining quality of ERM MCA’s design portfolio and business development materials.
