The Principal Engineer, FEA Specialist will be responsible for performing advanced finite element analysis to support the design, development, and validation of ClearMotion’s active suspension and actuator systems. This role works closely with mechanical, systems, and R&D engineering teams to evaluate structural integrity, durability (fatigue), and dynamic performance of components and assemblies throughout the product development cycle. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on Ansys expertise and a passion for solving complex structural and dynamic simulation challenges in a fast-paced automotive engineering environment. Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.Required Skills:
- 7+ years of FEA experience using specifically Ansys Mechanical; proficiency in linear and nonlinear static, modal, and transient dynamic analysis; strong understanding of structural mechanics and material behavior (ability to interpret multi-linear physical material test data and implement into simulations); experience interpreting and presenting simulation results to engineering teams, suppliers and customers; strong written and verbal communication skills; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with fatigue and durability analysis; familiarity with Ansys CFD or thermal simulation tools; automotive or suspension system background; exposure to DFM review processes; MatLab capabilities; Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Please note, the role may require travel (international possible) to support a wide range of engineering activities at one of our corporate locations, suppliers or customers. Estimate 2-5 trips per year depending on circumstances.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute FEA models for structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis of actuator components & assemblies using Ansys Mechanical / Workbench; collaborate with design engineers to evaluate component geometry, material selection, and loading conditions; perform linear and nonlinear static, modal, and transient dynamic analyses; interpret simulation results and provide actionable design recommendations in formal simulation reports and documentation; support design-for-manufacturing (DFM) reviews with simulation data; maintain and improve FEA processes, templates, and best practices; present findings clearly to cross-functional engineering, program management teams and automotive customers; support 8D and root cause analysis activities with simulation evidence where required.
- The role will be a mechanical engineering role at heart and will include a wide range of non-simulation type tasks including 3D modelling (SolidWorks), 2D drawings w/ GD&T and supporting design reviews. The candidate should be open to supporting design and engineering tasks other than just Ansys simulations to ensure their engineering knowledge of the product and engineering processes is as strong as possible.
