Position Overview:
The Paint Shop Automation Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated systems within the paint shop to ensure maximum equipment uptime, consistent paint quality, and safe operations.
The role supports automation across Pre-Treatment, E-Coat, Primer, Basecoat, Clearcoat, Ovens, Inspection Areas, Material Handling Systems, and ASRS.
Responsibilities:
Automation & Controls Maintenance:
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems, industrial robots, and automation equipment used in paint shop operations.
- Diagnose electrical, control, sensor, and communication faults to restore equipment quickly and safely.
- Perform structured fault analysis and root cause analysis (RCA) for repeat failures.
Programming & System Support:
- Support minor modifications and troubleshooting of PLC logic, robot programs, and HMI/SCADA screens as per approved change procedures.
- Maintain system backups, program versions, and automation documentation.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
- Execute preventive maintenance activities for automation systems including conveyors, robots, ovens, elevators, turntables, and ASRS.
- Monitor alarms, trends, and equipment behavior to support predictive maintenance and reliability improvement.
Commissioning & Improvement:
- Support commissioning, trials, and validation of new automation equipment, upgrades, and process changes.
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve cycle time, and stabilize paint quality.
Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with machine safety, LOTO, hazardous-area regulations, OEM standards, and internal EHS requirements.
- Support audits related to ISO/QMS and internal safety systems.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with cross functional team Production, Process Engineering, Quality, and Facilities teams.
- Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, maintenance activities, and automation modifications.
- High school Diploma or Equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in automation maintenance, preferably in a paint shop or highly automated manufacturing environment.
- Proven proficiency in PLC programming and industrial robotic system configuration.
- Working knowledge of simulation tools used for automation or robotic applications.
- Certification in industrial automation and/or robotics is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work shift duties and provide on-call support as per production requirements.
- Mandatory compliance with PPE usage, safety procedures, and plant EHS standards.
