Summary:
The Controls COE is focused on delivering innovative and robust designs solutions for Carrier HVAC products. We operate across the entire Carrier product portfolio, providing a unique and dynamic opportunity to collaborate with multiple BUs across the organization. Our team supports the full MBD controls product lifecycle - including design, development, MIL verification, troubleshooting, and lab validations. This enables controls engineers to gain hands-on experience across all stages, from conceptual design and lab validation to field trials and fleet support.
Key Role Responsibilities:
Manage a team of 5-7 controls engineers to design and deliver stable and robust high-quality on-time controls solutions
Support in project planning, design, execution, mitigating risks and conducting technical reviews.
Provide technical oversight to work performed, ensuring appropriate processes & methods are applied, in accordance with a model-based design (MBD) philosophy
Lead strategic initiatives for the controls COE to improve organizational quality and efficiency through technology advancement and process improvement
Work with system engineers in capturing high level system requirements and structurally decompose them ensuring requirement traceability
Derive control architecture and early-stage design over physical modules (e.g. PLC, RCP and HIL set-ups)
Recommend design considerations to equipment design and systems engineering team
Automate testing framework to generate soft/AI savings
Analyze MIL results, support psychrometric laboratory testing and fleet bugs.
Skillset needed:
Proficient knowledge of controls engineering foundations and model-based design concepts, including feedback control, linear/nonlinear control, multivariable control, system identification, and optimization
Proficient in the use of Matlab-based toolsets to early-stage design on RCP and MIL, implement solutions and lab validations.
Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision
Proven ability to lead small cross-disciplinary teams of engineers to deliver large scope projects
Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of delivering results through effective project management and teamwork
Ability to work hands-on in psychrometric laboratory environments to collect and analyze data
Experience with industrial control applications
Experience with vapor-compression cycles, including heat exchangers and turbomachinery compression technologies
Expertise in heat transfer, two-phase flow, and thermodynamic cycle analytical skills
Experience with software development lifecycle best practices, including version control, change management, release management
Good familiarity with advanced controls like predictive, robust and AI based Intelligent control.
Experience in requirements management and system integration, specifically test strategies across model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) domains
Strong technical writing skills with ability to produce clear, concise documentation
Experience in developing and calibrating physics-based models
Minimum Requirements:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Control Systems or Mechanical Engineering with min 9 years’ experience in controls application development.
