About Large Power Systems Division: 

The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is part of Caterpillar’s Power & Energy segment. Through this global organization, Caterpillar designs and manufactures large (greater than 18 liters) diesel and natural gas engines, powertrains and key engine systems. LPSD products and solutions support customers across power generation, industrial, marine, oil & gas, rail, services and Cat® machine applications worldwide.   

LPSD teams work across regions and functions to deliver safe, reliable and compliant solutions that help solve our customers’ toughest challenges.   

Role Definition 

Join Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) as an Engineering Project Team Leader, leading the planning, coordination, and execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives for the C280 platform. This role will focus on the C280 Gen2 NPI program and future product development efforts, driving projects from concept through launch. 

The Engineering Project Team Leader will lead complex, cross-functional engineering programs, partnering with teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Validation to deliver products that meet customer and business objectives. Success in this role requires strong project leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions, organizations, and global stakeholders. 

What You Will Do 

  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of the C280 Gen2 NPI program and future C280 platform development initiatives. 

  • Manage multiple complex engineering projects involving cross-functional teams, organizations, suppliers, and global stakeholders. 

  • Drive program execution by managing schedules, budgets, risks, deliverables, and key performance metrics. 

  • Provide leadership and direction throughout the product development lifecycle, from requirements definition through validation and launch. 

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, validation, purchasing, and supply chain teams to ensure successful program outcomes. 

  • Facilitate resolution of technical, operational, and program-related challenges through structured problem-solving and decision-making. 

  • Communicate project status, milestones, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership and key stakeholders. 

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer value. 

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and technical excellence across the project team.

Technical Excellence: Extensive knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. 

Influencing Through Expertise: Extensive knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization. 

Project Management: Expert knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. 

Team Management: Extensive knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams. 

Requirements Analysis: Extensive knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system. 

Product Design and Development: Extensive knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. 

Degree Requirement 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum OR demonstrated progressive experience in directly related roles.

  • Analytical thinking skills with a track record of effectively identifying patterns, trends, and opportunities within engineering data.

  • Location: Lafayette, IN 

  • This position may require up to 10% travel

  • This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
