As an Accountant within JLL's controllership team, you'll play a fundamental role in supporting financial operations for Brazil. This position combines technical accounting expertise with business partnership, where you'll be responsible for executing service invoice billing processes, tax and fiscal management, and supporting accounts receivable operations. You'll ensure compliance with Brazilian tax legislation, JLL's internal policies, and accounting standards, while maintaining the integrity of financial records. Working closely with the Brazil Controller and cross-functional teams, you'll manage the complete billing cycle, including service invoice issuance, tax calculation and recording, and support for accounts receivable activities. This position offers valuable exposure to accounting and fiscal operations in a dynamic real estate services environment, with the opportunity to develop specialized technical skills in billing, Brazilian taxation, and financial processes.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Billing:

  • Execute the complete service invoice billing process, ensuring compliance with current Brazilian tax legislation and JLL's internal policies.
  • Possess solid knowledge in electronic service invoice (NFS-e) issuance processes, including municipal registrations, digital certificates, and billing systems.
  • Actively monitor changes resulting from the tax reform in Brazil, assessing impacts on billing operations and implementing necessary adjustments to processes.
  • Ensure correct tax classification and calculation of taxes levied on billing, including ISS, PIS, COFINS, and other applicable taxes.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of withholding taxes on billing, including IRRF (Income Tax Withheld at Source), CSRF (Social Contribution Withheld at Source - PIS, COFINS, and CSLL), INSS, and ISS, ensuring correct calculation, withholding, and recording of these taxes.
  • Review and validate billing documents to ensure tax accuracy, compliance with local regulations, and alignment with customer contracts.
  • Coordinate with business and operations teams to obtain information necessary for billing, clarifying related tax and fiscal matters.
  • Maintain updated customer tax registrations, applicable rates, and documentation necessary for withholdings.

Accounts Receivable Support:

  • Provide support to accounts receivable operations, ensuring that billing is executed accurately and timely to facilitate the collection process.
  • Resolution of issues related to billing, discrepancies in invoices, and fiscal documentation necessary for collection.
  • Assist in aging analysis of accounts receivable, identifying delays related to tax or billing pending issues.
  • Support reconciliation processes between issued billing and receivable amounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare reports on billing status, withheld taxes, and pending issues that may impact collection.

Recording and Month-End Close:

  • Execute the recording of issued invoices and taxes incurred, ensuring correct registration in the ERP system and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of tax accounts (ISS, PIS, COFINS, IRRF, CSRF, INSS) and revenue accounts, ensuring that accounting balances are accurate and aligned with tax obligations and issued billing.
  • Participate in month-end close activities related to billing and taxes, preparing reconciliations and analyses of specific accounting accounts.
  • Prepare variance analyses on billed revenues and taxes, providing explanations to financial management.
  • Maintain organized and complete documentation of billing processes and tax records for audit and internal control purposes.

Coordination and Process Improvement:

  • Support internal and external audit activities related to billing and taxes, preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and automation in billing processes, proposing solutions that increase efficiency and reduce error risks.
  • Collaborate with IT and Operations teams in implementing improvements to billing systems and tax tools.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related fields, with 2-4 years of experience in billing processes, tax and fiscal management in corporate environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Brazilian tax legislation, especially related to service provision, including ISS, PIS, COFINS, IRPJ, and CSLL.
  • Fluency in Portuguese required; English knowledge desirable for communication with regional teams.
  • Proven knowledge of withholding taxes on billing, including IRRF, CSRF (PIS, COFINS, and CSLL), INSS, and ISS, with the ability to correctly calculate, withhold, and record these taxes.
  • Practical experience in issuing electronic service invoices (NFS-e) and familiarity with municipal billing systems.
  • Ability to monitor and understand changes from the tax reform in Brazil, assessing their impacts on billing operations.
  • Experience in reconciling accounting accounts, especially tax and revenue accounts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with business, operations, and finance teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Oracle JDE E1, SAP, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards (US GAAP and/or IFRS) related to revenue recognition.
  • Experience in multinational companies or professional services firms, with exposure to complex billing processes.
  • Familiarity with accounts receivable processes, collections, and credit management.
  • Active registration with CRC (Regional Accounting Council).
