This is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer role within Xero's AI Products group, a globally distributed team of scientists, engineers, and product managers building AI infrastructure and features for millions of small business users. You'll lead the design and implementation of production AI infrastructure at scale, refactor complex systems into highly scalable distributed architectures, and mentor junior engineers while championing engineering excellence across the team. Key responsibilities include building production environments using Python, SQL, and distributed processing engines like Spark or Dask, managing cloud workloads via AWS EMR, and applying modern LLM technologies to drive product innovation. Required experience includes strong system design and Python proficiency, deep understanding of distributed processing and SQL, exceptional communication skills, and familiarity with ML frameworks like MLFlow, TensorFlow, or PyTorch plus data orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect.
