Overview

UIC Corporate is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our Human Resources team. This position may be filled at the Human Resources Generalist I, II, III, or IV level based on the selected candidate's education, experience, and qualifications.

 

The Human Resources Generalist exercises independent judgment and discretion in support of a broad range of human resources functions. This position requires a proactive, customer-focused professional who can work independently and collaboratively while partnering with employees, leadership, and parent company human resources personnel to develop and implement effective human resources strategies and programs.

 

The Human Resources Generalist provides professional support across a variety of functional areas, including recruitment, employee relations, HR administration, compensation, benefits administration, HRIS administration, organizational development, compliance, training, policy administration, and special projects. Depending on the level, the position may also provide strategic guidance, lead complex human resources initiatives, mentor junior human resources staff, and assist in the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Essential functions include:

  • Perform professional human resources duties across multiple functional areas including recruitment and employment, employee relations, personnel administration, compensation, benefits administration, HRIS administration, organizational development, training, policy administration, compliance, and special projects.
  • Perform complex professional-level work involving employment law compliance, policy development, employee relations, compensation, employee records administration, and benefits.
  • Develop positive working relationships with employees and leadership while demonstrating excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Process employee lifecycle transactions including new hires, onboarding, job changes, terminations, benefits enrollment, unemployment claims, and medical support orders.
  • Provide guidance to employees, managers, and business leaders regarding human resources policies, procedures, employment practices, and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate policies and applicable employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with incident reporting, documentation, workers' compensation claims, and requests for claims information.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of employee personnel files and human resources records.
  • Ensure Davis-Bacon Act compliance and provide guidance to managers and employees regarding prevailing wage requirements.
  • Create, analyze, and distribute human resources reports, metrics, and workforce data to support business decisions and legislative reporting requirements.
  • Assist with employee relations matters including investigations, coaching managers, reviewing corrective action documentation, and recommending appropriate resolutions to minimize organizational risk.
  • Support and execute strategic human resources initiatives that align with business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with leaders to optimize talent, organizational structure, employee engagement, and workplace culture.
  • Serve as a change agent by supporting organizational initiatives and communicating Human Resources changes.
  • Participate in recruitment events, including high school career fairs, community events, shareholder meetings, and networking opportunities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Human Resources policies, procedures, employee communications, and HR best practices.
  • Lead human resources projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • At the Human Resources Generalist III and IV levels, provide subject matter expertise, mentor lower-level human resources staff, and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on complex human resources matters.
  • At the human resources Generalist IV level, lead complex cross-functional human resources initiatives, drive process improvements, and recommend strategic human resources solutions that support organizational goals.
  • Maintain punctual, reliable, and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

 

Human Resources Generalist I

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of professional-level human resources experience.
  • Basic knowledge of human resources principles and employment laws.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Human Resources Generalist II

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of progressively responsible professional-level human resources experience.
  • Experience supporting employee relations, HRIS administration, benefits, compliance, and employment law.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Human Resources Generalist III

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible professional-level human resources generalist experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Experience leading Human Resources projects and mentoring junior staff.

Human Resources Generalist IV

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible professional-level human resources generalist experience.
  • Advanced experience developing, implementing, and interpreting human resources policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, employment law compliance, organizational development, compensation, and HR strategy.
  • Experience leading complex human resources projects and serving as a trusted advisor to managers and senior leadership.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and provide guidance to lower-level human resources staff.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment on complex human resources matters.

All Levels

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Strong HRIS experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, SCA, Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), and general employment laws (commensurate with level).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Human Resources certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
  • Experience within the government contracting industry.
  • Experience administering or supporting Davis-Bacon Act (DBA) compliance.
  • Experience with UKG Pro (formerly UltiPro) or a comparable Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Experience supporting government compliance requirements.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience leading human resources projects, process improvements, or organizational change initiatives.
