Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Plant Shipping Supervisor, the Forklift Driver’s responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:  

  • Operate conventional and/or doublewide industrial trucks to perform transporting assignments where needed.
  • Load or unload trailers according to prescribed methods.  Secure or remove dock plates.
  • Brace loads on trailers according to prescribed methods to prevent material damage in transit.
  • Identify various types, sizes and decorations of finished product to assure correct shipment.  Identify obvious defects and place in designated hold areas of the warehouse.
  • Inspect loads for shipment and correct minor damage or cans missing.  Responsible for final count and quality of product being shipped.
  • Post record of completed loading on appropriate sheets.
  • Unload trailers as required and position received goods on to the warehouse floor so as not to interfere with traffic flow.
  • As required, direct tractor-trailer drivers to appropriate loading docks.
  • Service trucks, changing batteries, checking oil and water, etc.  Operate electric battery trolley and hoist to change batteries.  Place used batteries into appropriate stalls and connect to proper charges.
  • As required, use hand strapper to replace missing or broken straps. Stretch wrap pallets       for shipment as required.
  • Re-pile spilled loads of cans.  Breakdown or fill out pallet loads.
  • Handle and dump scrap or spoilage into appropriate bins.
  • Identify appropriate decorations of finished cans and assure correct and prompt delivery of cans to proper destination.
  • Remove loads from auto conveyor system and place into stock in appropriate areas of warehouse.
  • Notify supervisor of any breakdowns, recurring incidents or product or packaging defects, lift truck malfunctions and battery station malfunctions.
  • Perform lift truck duties in upper warehouse and production areas as required.
  • Keep assigned area clean and hazard free.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment, devices and guards are properly used and in place at all times.  Follow safe working procedures and safety rules.
  • Identify loads to be shipped from production schedule.
  • Verify loads with packing slips and production schedule.
  • Generate bills of lading and custom papers as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • High School diploma or G.E.D preferred
  • Equivalent with 3+ years working on a sit-down forklift experience required.
  • Working in a manufacturing setting (high-speed manufacturing is preferred).
  • Must be able to withstand extreme climate changes especially during summer and winter months. 
  • Effective and proven communication skills (both written and verbal) working in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time. 
  • Effective record keeping skills and the ability to focus on details
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods as well as work on elevated stationary platforms and withstand extreme climate changes especially during summer months. 
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail, good record keeping, and precision abilities is highly desirable. 
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, either nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., or days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekends and overtime as business needs dictate.

Preferred Requirements

  • OSHA/Forklift Trainer Certified
  • Beverage Packaging industry experience
  • Knowledge of AS400
