Overview
As a Level 1 Trauma Center, this position is responsible to perform all registration functions, including the creation or confirmation of a medical record and account number. This position expedites and provides healthcare access through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship, or guardian data, insurance, financial, and statistical information from a variety of sources, i.e. patients, patient's families, physicians, physician office staff, county and/or government agencies. This position is responsible to process patient/observation admissions for hospital emergency departments. This position ensures reimbursement for services being rendered through electronic verification of insurance eligibility/benefits, obtaining insurance authorization within a required time frame, identification, and collection of patient financial obligation. This position will use third-party payer resources, such as websites, to verify eligibility, gain authorizations and check the financial obligation of the patient. Takes an active role in decreasing account receivables by following established guidelines, regulations, and policies during the registration process to increase the facility's first pass yield percentage and decrease account denials. Contributes to the facility point of service by creating estimates and collecting any monies due at the time service is rendered. This position is responsible for obtaining the necessary regulatory signatures for consent for treatment, financial responsibility agreements, and HIPAA requirements. Consults and communicates with other hospital departments as required to maintain efficient patient care. This position is responsible to use the Passage point system to screen visitors & create security badges. This position will work scheduled weekend shifts on a rotating basis in addition to regularly scheduled shifts.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
One (1) year of clerical experience in a patient-facing or public contact setting is required, or six (6) months of experience in a health-related business office or third-party payer environment. College-level coursework and a working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance industry concepts are preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate experience managing multiple priorities, adapting to changing demands, making sound and timely decisions, and working independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in computer applications and experience navigating multiple systems is preferred. Strong verbal, written, and analytical communication skills are required.
The successful candidate must be adaptable, tactful, and able to perform effectively in a high-pressure environment. A strong understanding of the importance of a first impression role—including professional appearance, attitude, and customer service—is essential.
This position requires the ability to work rotating weekend shifts in addition to regularly scheduled shifts.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:This position is designated as a non-frequent driver and may operate a vehicle for assigned business purposes.
Note: A frequent driver is defined as an employee who uses a personal or organization-owned vehicle at least once daily, at least five trips per week, or drives an average of more than 150 miles per week in the performance of job duties.
