As we approach our next phase of growth, we are seeking a visionary Senior Director, Corporate Controller who will scale the Company’s accounting organization from a high-growth biotech startup to an innovative market leader, establishing institutional-grade rigor. This role will be responsible for overseeing all accounting activities, including accounting close and consolidation, financial reporting, technical accounting policy, payroll, equity, treasury, risk management, tax and internal controls.
This role is based in South San Francisco and reports to the Vice President, Finance.
Responsibilities:
Close and Reporting: Drive continuous improvement surrounding quarter-end close and 409A valuation update timelines
Technical Accounting: In-house expert for technical accounting matters, managing technical accounting activities in-line with recent GAAP pronouncements, drafting of technical accounting memos, and implementing new FASB Standards
Internal Controls: Design, document, and maintain a robust internal control environment to ensure financial statement accuracy and safeguard company assets
Audit & Tax: Manage annual financial audits with external auditors and oversee all Federal, State, and local tax compliance and filings.
Systems and Tools: Collaborate with business partners to develop Finance IT roadmap, implementing select systems to streamline manual close process and strengthen integrity of financial data
Partnership: Provide the Leadership Team and Board of Directors with high-impact strategic analysis and business insights, partner and collaborate with senior leaders to meet cross-functional goals
Team Development: Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing accounting team to handle increased complexity and growth
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Certification: Active CPA license
Experience: 15+ years of progressive financial management, 5+ years building and managing high-performing teams, Big Four public accounting experience, previous Controllership experience within both public companies and high-growth, investor backed, corporate environments.
Industry Expertise: Proven experience in the Biotech/Life Science industry
Technical Proficiency: Deep proficiency in US GAAP, with the ability to translate the impact of complex technical standards to the Leadership Team and business partners in a way that empowers...
