Expected salary range of $108,000 to $120,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).
Responsibilities
Primary Purpose of Position
The Principal I, Retail Operations is responsible for maintaining advanced knowledge of business applications, processes, and retail energy markets to support the effective operation of Retail systems and workflows. This role coordinates system operations, monitors data integrity and flow, and ensures the accuracy and efficiency of internal processes while supporting continuous improvement and innovation. This position serves as a subject matter expert and key liaison to Commercial business segments, applying deep understanding of industry practices, utility and market rules, tariffs, and regulatory requirements. The role leads department initiatives and contributes expertise to large scale, cross functional projects and complex operational activities. The Principal I analyzes large and complex data sets, performs impact assessments, and provides insights that support strategic decision making across the Retail portfolio, while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities
- Lead and contribute to cross functional projects and process improvement initiatives by defining business requirements, developing test scripts, and implementing system and workflow enhancements that drive automation, innovation, and sustainable solutions.
- Partner with Information Technology and business stakeholders to evaluate needs, improve processes, and deliver efficient, scalable workflow and system solutions.
- Communicate operational issues, system risks, and improvement opportunities to stakeholders while promoting collaboration, knowledge transfer, and effective change management across teams.
- Support internal and external customers by resolving inquiries, ensuring seamless service, and proactively addressing issues that impact multiple processes or functions.
- Manage and monitor operational activities including customer enrollment, billing accuracy, contract processing, payments, and data integrity to ensure compliance, accuracy, and a high quality customer experience.
- Analyze complex data sets, monitor data flows between systems, and perform impact analysis to support reporting, operational decisions, and overall portfolio performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight of daily workflow activities to ensure work is completed accurately, timely, and in alignment with operational objectives while supporting team development and capability building.
- Investigate and resolve complex operational issues by applying independent judgment, evaluating alternatives, and implementing effective solutions in collaboration with cross functional teams.
- Support implementation of new or customized processes, products, and deals by assessing impacts and executing necessary operational changes.
- Ensure alignment with business, contractual, regulatory, and market requirements while maintaining compliance with SOX controls and company policies.
- Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and workflow processes to ensure reliability, accuracy, and risk mitigation across Retail operations.
- Travel required as necessary to meet business needs.
- In-person attendance for training, all-hands meetings, and other meaningful engagements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 8-years of experience, in lieu of degree 12-years of experience
- Experience in retail energy or related industry
- Advanced knowledge of retail products or metering
- 3-years of technical analysis/consulting experience
- Proven written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to internal and external audiences
- Proven ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments
- Analytical skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, problem solving and independent decision making
- Working knowledge of LDC / ISO market transactions (EDI)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data modeling) and PowerPoint
