About Roche - Near Patient Care Operations

Doing now what patients need next. The customer area Near Patient Care (NPC) unites Roche’s Point of Care and Diabetes Care portfolios. Our ambition is to improve disease management by enabling critical answers and personalized care, closer to the people we serve. With our passion we bring testing closer to patients and empower people to better monitor their own health and help healthcare professionals make faster, more confident decisions closer to the patient.
Within NPC Operations, we are globally accountable for the end-to-end production of solutions for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), blood glucose monitoring (BGM), and insulin delivery (IDS), as well as Point-of-Care (POC) products. The most relevant internal manufacturing sites are Mannheim in Germany and Indianapolis in the USA.

As Manufacturing Science and Technology in NPC Operations, we bridge the gap between development and manufacturing. With around 200 colleagues across Mannheim, Indianapolis, and Rotkreuz, we lead technology strategy, product design industrialization, and collaboration with external partners throughout the product lifecycle.
As a project-based organization, we enable scalable product designs ready for mass production, ensure robust processes and equipment for excellent yields, and ensure scalable QC processes. Partnering with external networks, we secure competitive manufacturing costs and reliable production.

Your new role

As Process Technology Lead - Coating & Compounding, you will take on a highly specialized role in our organization, ensuring the successful development and transfer into series production of technologies such as Dip Coating or Slot Dye Coating through a deep understanding of coating technologies and various process technologies. Your main tasks will be:

  • Planning and execution of trials as well as development and manufacturing processes in the laboratory and pilot plant
  • Systematic process window determination based on the application of scientific methods (e.g., DoE – Design of Experiments) to define stable process parameters.
  • Conception, design, and continuous optimization of formulation, compounding, and coating processes
  • Development, establishment, and optimization of testing and measurement methods using physical and optical measurement systems
  • Creation, maintenance, and ensuring completeness of technical documentation (e.g., test plans, protocols, reports, machine logs, specifications)
  • Active participation in development and optimization projects as well as technology and market screening of new processes and methods
  • Transfer to series production - Transferring the developed processes from laboratory status to industrial series maturity, including the creation of necessary documentation and work instructions.
  • Identification of causes of process deviations (Root Cause Analysis) and development of corrective measures for existing manufacturing processes.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Close coordination with design engineering (mechanical engineering), software development, and product management for the integration of the processes into the overall system.

Who You Are

  • Completed university degree (Master/Diploma/PhD) in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable engineering discipline with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • You bring initial relevant experience in leading teams in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and development of formulation and application processes
  • Expertise in method development, method optimization, and method validation
  • Practical experience in formulation development, process optimization, and scaling (Scale-up) from laboratory to pilot plant or production scale
  • Experience in the analytical characterization of products and processes, including the evaluation of analysis, trial, and rheology results
  • Proficient in troubleshooting in development and manufacturing processes
  • Routine in the creation, maintenance, and further development of technical documentation, e.g., trial documentation, manufacturing instructions (HAB), SOPs, specifications, and testing regulations
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of laboratory and formulation equipment, special machinery, as well as testing and measuring devices
  • Demonstrable experience in statistical experimental design (DoE) and data evaluation (e.g., with Minitab, JMP, or Python/Matlab)
  • Structured way of working with a distinct analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex physical correlations into stable industrial processes.
  • Understanding of industrial requirements (cycle time, OEE, process capability, CPK) is essential.

Location: Mannheim or Indianapolis

This position requires a willingness to travel 30%.
