Citi is seeking a senior Credit Underwriting Manager to lead a team of underwriting analysts within its Institutional Credit Management (ICM) group, a first-line-of-defense function responsible for end-to-end wholesale credit risk management across Citi's institutional client base. In this role, you will own a portfolio of corporate client relationships, drive credit approval decisions, and set the standard for rigorous credit analysis across Corporate Banking, Services, and Markets. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity at the intersection of credit underwriting, risk governance, and client partnership, with direct visibility to senior stakeholders across the firm.
## Responsibilities
* Lead the end-to-end credit underwriting process for a portfolio of institutional corporate clients, from early origination through to the preparation and presentation of credit approval memos at senior approval forums.
* Review and provide sign-off on financial analysis, due diligence, projection modeling, stress testing, and risk rating assessments completed by junior analysts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with credit standards.
* Assess and articulate credit recommendations to Risk in both written and verbal format, clearly communicating risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships.
* Partner with Front Office teams to structure new transactions and support negotiation of legal documentation, bringing credit expertise to deal origination discussions.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for credit-related discussions with internal and external auditors, as well as regulators and control functions.
* Manage and develop a team of underwriting analysts, overseeing workload allocation, identifying staffing solutions for urgent deliverables, and leading recruiting and onboarding where required.
* Monitor macroeconomic and industry-specific developments relevant to the coverage portfolio and apply those insights to credit reviews and portfolio stress testing.
## Required Qualifications & Skills
* 10 or more years of credit risk or credit-related experience within banking or financial institutions, with demonstrated expertise in end-to-end credit underwriting, credit analysis, financial spreading, and credit memo approval.
* Ability to independently manage a portfolio of institutional client relationships, including the timely production of annual and quarterly credit reviews and ad-hoc transaction support.
* Strong credit risk assessment capability, including the ability to identify issues early, structure solutions, and make well-reasoned recommendations under time pressure.
* Solid understanding of capital markets products and complex financing structures, with the ability to evaluate risk assets and risk capital implications in partnership with banking and product teams.
* Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with regulators, internal audit, and fundamental credit risk functions, as well as external auditors.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present clearly and persuasively to senior audiences of varying sizes and backgrounds.
* High ethical standards, sound judgment, and the ability to see the broader strategic picture in complex, fast-moving environments.
## Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
* Experience covering Real Money Funds or institutional asset management clients within a wholesale credit or institutional banking context.
* Exposure to global credit risk management frameworks and cross-border institutional client portfolios.
* Established relationships with peers in global banking, risk, or product organizations, with a track record of leveraging cross-functional networks to drive outcomes.
