The Cargo Movements team is responsible for some of our core data pipelines. You’ll participate in the evolution of our backend data platform and related services, with the aim of extracting and consolidating disparate data sources, applying algorithms to large datasets and making them available to both internal and external clients.    As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of front-end and back-end capabilities, working from project requirements and technical designs. You will support system performance, reliability, and high availability by troubleshooting issues, maintaining features, and applying strong analytical and debugging skills while continuing to grow your technical expertise.

The Cargo Movements team is responsible for some of our core data pipelines. You will support system performance, reliability, and high availability by troubleshooting issues, maintaining features, and applying strong analytical and debugging skills while continuing to grow your technical expertise.

Your mission is to

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services, data pipelines, APIs and user-facing application features within agreed scope and technical guidance.
  • Write clean, maintainable, secure, and well-tested code that follows team standards and engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions by asking clarifying questions, identifying implementation considerations, and providing input on proposed solutions.
  • Investigate and debug issues in development and production systems using logs, metrics, and debugging tools, escalating risks or complex problems appropriately.
  • Support system reliability and performance by contributing to monitoring, testing, deployment, and operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, analysts, and data scientists to clarify requirements and deliver reliable product capabilities.
  • Participate in code reviews by providing constructive feedback and responding thoughtfully to review comments on your own work.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation for features, operational processes, and implementation decisions where appropriate.

You could be a match if you have

  • Experience using Python to build data processing, transformation, or integration workflows.
  • Understanding of data integration and ETL principles, including batch, asynchronous, or streaming data processing.
  • Experience working with SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with developing, integrating, or maintaining APIs and backend services.
  • Understanding of modern software development practices, including Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in line with established engineering practices.
  • Basic understanding of containerisation technologies, such as Docker.
  • Ability to investigate technical problems, communicate blockers, and contribute to the reliable operation of production systems.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and business domains.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, analytics, and data science.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  •   Desirable:
  • Familiarity with at least one additional backend language or technology, such as Node.js, Scala, Java, or another JVM-based language.
  • Exposure to developing front-end applications using a modern framework, preferably Vue.js, with TypeScript or JavaScript.
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.
  • Familiarity with Kafka or another message-broker or event-streaming technology.
  • Exposure to Elasticsearch or another search and indexing technology.
