Job Overview

The Senior Director of Operations – Transmission & Distribution is an executive leader responsible for driving operational excellence across a multi-site manufacturing footprint within Hubbell Utility Solutions. This role provides end-to-end leadership for manufacturing, supply chain, quality, EHS, and operational strategy in support of a growing, complex T&D portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President, Operations – HUS, this leader will partner closely with senior leadership to deliver best-in-class performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory (SQDCI) while enabling scalable growth and operational efficiency across the business. This role requires a strategic leader who can balance hands-on execution with enterprise-level transformation, including footprint optimization, Hubbell Manufacturing System deployment (Lean), and integration of acquisitions. This role will have approximately 75% travel.  #LI-AO1

  • Operational Leadership

    • Lead and optimize multi-site manufacturing operations across the T&D business unit
    • Drive performance against key metrics: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory
    • Establish a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
    • Serve as a key member of the business unit leadership team, influencing overall strategy and execution

    Strategy & Execution

    • Translate business strategy into actionable operational plans, KPIs, and site-level execution
    • Actively participate in the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process to ensure customer delivery and demand alignment
    • Drive capacity planning, footprint optimization, and facility consolidation initiatives
    • Support integration and operational due diligence for M&A activities

    Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

    • Champion Hubbell Manufacturing System (Lean manufacturing / culture), Six Sigma, and 5S disciplines
    • Lead enterprise-level continuous improvement initiatives focused on:
      • Waste elimination
      • Productivity gains
      • Cycle time reduction
      • Cost optimization
    • Build and sustain a culture of Operational Excellence and standardization

    Financial & Performance Management

    • Own and manage annual operating plans, forecasts, and capital expenditures
    • Ensure disciplined financial performance through:
      • Cost control
      • Inventory optimization
      • Efficiency improvements

    Quality, Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure adherence to EHS standards (OSHA, regulatory compliance) and drive a zero-incident culture
    • Maintain robust quality systems to meet customer and industry expectations

    Talent & Organizational Leadership

    • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing operations team
    • Drive succession planning and leadership development in partnership with HR
    • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous learning

    Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

    • Partner with Supply Chain, Engineering, Commercial, and Finance leaders to deliver business results
    • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, ensuring alignment across the enterprise
    • Drive consistency and best practice sharing across business units

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Required

    • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or related field preferred); MBA strongly preferred
    • 10+ years of progressive leadership in manufacturing/operations, including:
      • Plant Manager, Director or Sr. Director of Operations
    • Experience in medium to heavy manufacturing environments (T&D, utilities, industrial, or infrastructure preferred)
    • Proven ability to lead multi-site operations
    • Strong background in:
      • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma
      • Supply chain and ERP systems (SAP preferred)
    • Demonstrated success driving metrics-based performance and operational transformation
    • Ability to travel ~75%

    Preferred

    • Experience in Transmission & Distribution, utilities, or power infrastructure markets
    • Exposure to:
      • High-mix / low-volume manufacturing
      • Welding, fabrication, or engineered products
      • Union environments
    • Lean / Operational Excellence certification
    • Multilingual (Spanish preferred)
