About this opportunity
Ericsson's Smart Factory team is looking for a Software Engineer to help build and maintain manufacturing applications that power reliable, scalable production systems. In this role, you will develop solutions using Ignition, C#, Java, and Python, ensuring all features and fixes align with established architectural standards and design patterns. We value high-quality work and support continuous growth in both technical skills and manufacturing domain knowledge.
What you will do
* Implement features and changes for manufacturing applications using Ignition and related integrations, following established architectural patterns and standards.
* Create and modify Ignition screens, tags, bindings, and scripts based on existing patterns to meet functional requirements.
* Develop, maintain, and integrate solutions in C#, Java, and Python; enhance backend services as needed.
* Write clear, maintainable code and configuration items; incorporate feedback from code and design reviews to ensure implementations align with team standards.
* Clarify requirements with the Product Owner and stakeholders, translating business and shopfloor context into actionable technical tasks.
* Investigate, reproduce, and resolve defects; propose and deliver fixes and improvements in a timely manner.
* Support production systems as part of a team rotation, including data corrections, configuration changes, and routine maintenance tasks.
* Write and execute unit, manual, and regression tests to ensure quality and reliable delivery.
* Contribute to and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, user guides, and records of known issues, assumptions, and workarounds.
* Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams through standups, planning, refinements, reviews, and retrospectives; participate in an on-call/extended support rotation (with agreed compensation and reimbursement per company policy).
The skills you bring
* Practical experience or strong aptitude with Ignition or similar low-code/industrial automation platforms.
* Hands-on programming experience in C#, Python, Java, or comparable languages for developing services and integrations.
* Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL for querying, reporting, and basic data maintenance.
* Curiosity and willingness to learn manufacturing processes, shopfloor constraints, and domain-specific requirements.
* Ability to follow established architectural standards and design patterns, seek guidance when needed, and collaborate effectively within a team.
* Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation/Control Systems, or a related STEM field — equivalent practical experience is equally welcome and valued.
