As a Software Engineer II at JPMorganChase within the Consumer & Community Banking team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
- Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
- Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
- Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
- Participates in evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
- Aligns to communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
- Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
- Participates in design and code reviews, incorporates security and non-functional requirements into design, and provides input to information/data flow
- Incorporates modern architectural standards into application design specifications

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training/certification in software engineering concepts plus 3+ years of hands-on, applied experience
- Proven delivery experience across system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced Java skills, including Spring Boot, microservices, and Java security concepts/practices
- Strong automation mindset with proficiency in CI/CD and continuous delivery methods
- Solid understanding of end-to-end SDLC and agile ways of working
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
- Working knowledge of resiliency and engineering quality practices (e.g., Jenkins, Sonar, security)
- Practical cloud-native experience, plus exposure to a technical specialization area (e.g., cloud/AI/ML/mobile)
- Experience with modern UI frameworks (Angular v4/React), SQL/NoSQL databases (PL/SQL, JPA/ORM like Hibernate/MyBatis), and streaming platforms (Kafka)
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Practical cloud native experience
- Preferred Python, Pyspark know-how and understanding
- Knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems preferred
