BELUX Maintenance Manager

1. About Hertz

Hertz is a global mobility company focused on operational excellence, cost efficiency, and customer experience. In BELUX, maintenance is critical to vehicle availability, safety, cost control, and customer satisfaction.

2. Role Purpose

The BELUX Maintenance Manager owns end-to-end maintenance performance across Belgium and Luxembourg.The role ensures that vehicles are:

  • Safe, compliant, and roadworthy
  • Available for rental at optimal utilization
  • Maintained at lowest sustainable cost
  • Repaired efficiently with minimal downtime

This role directly impacts utilization, NPS, OoS, and total fleet cost.

This role reports to the Director Fleet / Country Fleet leadership and leads the BELUX maintenance network, including internal coordinators, workshop operations, and external repair partners.

3. Key Responsibilities

A. Maintenance Strategy & Governance

  • Define and execute the BELUX maintenance strategy aligned with fleet and operational objectives
  • Standardize processes across BE/LU (damage handling, repairs, preventive maintenance)
  • Implement governance routines (KPIs, supplier reviews, audit checks)

 

B. Operational Maintenance Performance

  • Own performance of:
    • Repair lead time
    • Out-of-service (OoS) days
    • Turnaround time (TAT)
    • Workshop productivity
  • Drive rapid vehicle turnaround from damage to readiness
  • Ensure consistent service levels across all stations and hubs

 

C. Supplier & Workshop Management

  • Manage relationships with:
    • Bodyshops
    • Mechanical workshops
    • Tires, glass, and specialist vendors
  • Negotiate labor rates, SLAs, and service conditions
  • Monitor vendor performance (cost, quality, cycle time)
  • Optimize workshop footprint (insourcing vs outsourcing)

 

D. Cost Control & Financial Ownership

  • Own maintenance and damage budget across BELUX
  • Optimize:
    • Labor cost per repair
    • Parts cost and sourcing strategy
    • Cost per damage case
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives without impacting quality or availability

 

E. Damage & Claims Optimization

  • Standardize damage assessment processes (fair, consistent, cost-controlled)
  • Reduce claim leakage and unauthorized repair spend
  • Collaborate with Operations and Claims teams to improve recovery rates

 

F. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure all vehicles comply with:
    • Local technical inspections (APK / contrôle technique)
    • Safety regulations and recall campaigns
  • Manage risk related to vehicle condition and liability
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and processes

 

G. Fleet Lifecycle Integration

  • Coordinate with:
    • Fleet (acquisition & planning)
    • Operations (utilization & availability)
    • Remarketing (defleet condition & refurbishment)
  • Support decisions on:
    • Repair vs defleet
    • Refurbishment investments
    • Residual value preservation

(Aligned with full lifecycle ownership of fleet operations including maintenance and repairs). [1]

 

H. Data, Reporting & Performance Management

  • Monitor and report KPIs:
    • Maintenance cost per unit / per day
    • OoS rate
    • Cycle time
    • Supplier performance
  • Leverage data and analytics to improve decision-making
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (process + systems)

 

I. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop maintenance teams (workshops, admins, supervisors)
  • Build a high-performance, cost-conscious culture
  • Ensure alignment across BE/LU teams
  • Coach teams on operational excellence and compliance across Belgium and Luxembourg

4. Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive, Engineering, Logistics or Business

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of relevant experience in fleet maintenance, automotive aftersales, leasing, rental fleet operations, or a comparable multi-site automotive environment in Belgium and Luxembourg.
    • Fleet maintenance
    • Automotive aftersales
    • Leasing / rental fleet operations
  • Proven experience managing supplier networks, negotiating service levels and labor rates, and driving maintenance performance across multiple locations.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Fleet, Claims, and Remarketing teams in a fast-paced operational environment.

Languages

  • Fluent in English
